I think there’s nothing wrong removing gay pride flyers. will you remove suicide promotion flyers? (no kidding they do exist!)

I can understand a serial killer may take pride in his “works”. but why gays?

Have her tell him that he’s got “thousands” on this forum on the edge of their seats, too.

(No pressure at all…😃 )

I don’t want to divert the thread or anything, but what do you all think about this: Sometimes when I’m at goodwill or the library or something, I’ll come across a book about wicca or something along those lines. A lot of times I’ll hide it under other books or put in behind other books on the shelves, so people won’t see them and be led astray. Is this wrong of me? I never really thought about it before reading this thread.

I tear up JW tracts all the time.I never give it a thought.
I would have no problem with getting rid of the gay pride flyers, though I would probably try to have them removed “legally” first. (It would depend to some extent on the kind of day I was having…)

I have done the hiding/burying thing with books. If books at the thrift store are egregious enough, I buy them & put them in the nearest garbage can.
I sometimes find these on the free shelf in the library. Again,I take them & toss them.
I don’t consider this a free speech issue, on the grounds that “your right to free speech does not extend to shouting ‘fire’ in a crowded building”.(Judge Learned Hand, I think…)

The moment you’ve all been waiting for (drum roll please):

The priest said what she did was morally fine. That being said, she should probably have reported the violation and done it that way. Likewise, taking them everytime in the future might not be a good idea because it would incite the other group to start doing the same to the good ones (ie pro-life, etc.). But especially since this was a one-time barrage for gay pride week and the flyers were free to everyone, she was justified in taking them because they promoted grave sin.

My priest said it was all right, too. Father Dave said that they had a right to put them out and we have a right to take them away.

😃

I like my priest.👍

And I thought I was the ONLY one !!!

Also, regarding JW literature, another poster talked about ripping up? I always always take whatever they want to give me so I can throw it directly into the trash. I figure better in my garbage than in my neighbor’s hands.

Finally, to your girlfriend… 👍

thanks for the great post- I also thought I was the only one who did stuff like that(at bookstores), or flipped over and hid Cosmo, etc. magazines under boring-looking ones.

I thought this was a great point:
When people place fliars in public areas, they relinquish property rights. The fliars are meant to be taken by people. It just so happens that they were taken by people unsympathatic to their sinful position.
The golden rule says to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Disposing of information that promotes a sinful lifestyle is an act of charity. I would hope that other people would help me in avoiding occasions of sin.
Also, Catholic Dude was so right when he talked about charity. People write “clever” (not) comments all the time on any pro-life fliers and posters I put around the school, something I know will happen and something everyone who puts up stuff should expect.

I was wondering, though, when you take things, like the JW handouts or whatever, do they see the numbers of stuff being taken at “headquarters” and think they should make more (are you encouraging more production?), or are you really taking info that would have gone into your neighbors’ hands?

In any case, kudos to your girlfriend!

Genesis,
My commendations to your girlfriend. One must be proactive at times. She thinks on her feet, you got a keeper there!

I dont know how the infernal machine runs the numbers, but I know they are very very high. Total waste. But it must be working if they keep doing it. I dont see them all around, so in this case if someone throws them away then you can be assured it didnt end up in anyone’s hands. But anyway back to the numbers game, if you open up any Awake or WatchTower magazine (both JW), you will see right in the opening cover the number of issues made, the number is always in the tens of millions (20-30 million!!). I dont know how true those figures are, but if you consider about 8 million “members” plus opportunity for victims then those numbers sound about right.
In any case they are like swarming insects the do their damage by numbers.

Precisely!! I have taken to letting JWs into my house on the same principle. They are never going to convert me, & just think of all the time they are wasting. No one else is being led astray while they are talking to me.
And the girl friend?:clapping:
