Who are you asking?

If you want to be free, you must pay the price. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.
Well, I spoke to one of my commissioners the other day, but really, I am gone from my house for 12-14 hours, and I am supposed spend my two hours before bed doing activism?

It seems to me that you’re spending more time thinking up excuses than you would need to be active.😉

No, I am not. I wake up at 5 a.m. and I don’t come back home until 8p.m. I try to dedicate my Sunday to God and enjoying my friends. And that leaves my weekday off for errands, laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping. I don’t think my experience is that uncommon. When I was in college, I had time for this stuff, but most of us are simply too busy making a living or raising families to fight city hall. Of course, if you are wealthy, you can can your tax lawyers and account to find you clever loopholes, but what about the rest of us?

The rest of us have to work to improve our government.

I never liked that answer either. If I am just living for the next live, then what am I doing here? Can’t I just skip this part and go be in the next life.
Our performance in this world determines our worthiness for the next. We have free will to reject the Lord, or to embrace Him. As you live your life, your love of, and obedience to the Lord will allow you to store up treasure in Heaven. This life is temporary, but the next endures forever - good or bad!

Christ’s peace.

Couple question.

Do you have a full time job? What do you do to improve your government?
I run my farm. I’m chairman of my local committee for a political party, secretary of the local right to life committee, business manager for my church, and member of our local Catholic Charities Disaster Assistance committee. I am a former candidate for Congress, as well.

And in the time you have used up making excuses, you could have addressed a hundred envelopes, sent several emails to your congressional delegation and to your state and local governments, as well as written a letter to the editor of your local paper.

Well, you have more energy than I do. This is my day off and I want to be doing NOTHING today!

The why spend so much energy complaining about things you’re not willing to change?

Because complaining is cathartic and requires less work. You can spend a lot of time trying to change things that seem insurmountable, but complaining on your day off is easy. My spare time is precious. I would rather be watching a good movie than stuffing envelopes. Sorry. 🤷

Do you take into account the people who respond to your complaining?

The Blessed Saint Thomas More told furious Henry VIII that he was pleased to be the King’s good servant, but God’s first. We as Christians do not owe the temporal masters that which our Heavenly Father requires of us.

Saint Thomas More was exemplary in observing his obligations to his temporal ruler, Henry Tudor, but this king would usurp to himself the right of reverence equal to God, and His Vicar on earth, a right which St. Thomas More could not grant to this furious monarch . “Render unto Caesar” states the worldly limitations of rordinary regal and political authority, and that the supreme loyalty for a Catholic is to Our Lord Jesus Christ,
