If evil is not exposed, it will never be dealt with.
I was horrified as well and prayed that it not be a Catholic Priest, but obviously it was.
Although we may all Hope and Pray that this evil sexual molestations of children committed by horribly misguided priests will just go away, it wont. IT WILL NOT GO AWAY UNTIL THE LAST PERSON ABUSED HAS SPOKEN ABOUT IT.
We do not want it to come out in a public forum, such as the news media, we are sick of paying millions, but that is the price that must be paid. If it is not exposed to THE LIGHT, the evil practice will continue.
My advice, KEEP PRAYING, pray for the priests, the victims, the victims of the victims, and for all of us that we never ever turn our cheek to blatant injustice of any kind.
If Catholicism is the one true church, in Purity and Wisdom and Truth, it must BE EXPOSED.
We will get through it.
Eternal Peace,
Lisa

To me it appears that Saint_Michael has made it his duty to constantly bring up this subject to make the point that he just left the Church because of the sex abuse scandal.

A little bitter perhaps?
Yes, unfortunately, and bearing the Great Saint Michaels name, but then again Jesus has already warned us about this…

**Mark 4:16 And these likewise are they that are sown on the stony ground: who when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but are only for a time: and then when tribulation and persecution ariseth for the word they are presently scandalized.
**
13
And he saith to them: Are you ignorant of this parable? and how shall you know all parables? 14 He that soweth, soweth the word. 15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown, **and as soon as they have heard, immediately Satan cometh and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. **
Here

Anyway after reading the story it seems like in order to stop the dogs from scenting him out he took to the river, the river here being his alleged molestation, good ploy, but it’s old.

I saw this little news item on the horizon before it was announced. Obviously the thought crossed Foley’s mind, too, that this would be a good dodge. I do not believe he has one ounce of credibility to make such a claim. After forty years, only we he gets into legal difficulty, does he turn to one of the hottest buttons in the news media and say it was them!

Yeah, right.

The oldest trick in a shyster’s book. When backed into the wall as a predator, turn the tables and play the victim.

What word did I lose? I have not lost the Gospel of Christ. I lost faith in a man made institution and men called priests, but not in Christ. Sorry take your Bible verse cherry pickin ehem elsewhere and do not judge me.

Why do you think it is obvious it was a Catholic priest?Any one that takes this stand is putting the blame on any and all priests that this congressman ever met as a child.

Also as a convert at the age of 16 years old. I can assure you I have come into contact with many a Protestant clergyman.

That last line was a little humorous considering…

Anyway, I hope we get to see an actual end to this newspost… I hate when they report these huge “scandals” but when they turn to be false… They disappear… Not to the back sections, just entirely…

Unfounded innuendo is not acceptable.
Well, it is not acceptable to people who exercise an ounce of their critical thinking capacity. Unfortunately, many don’t and will jump to unfounded conclusions. Taking even a glancing look at this mess, the first unfounded conclusion is that Mr. Foley was ever abused by anybody and that in regard to any of these matters Mr. Foley is telling the truth.

We know: (1) Mr. Foley was smart and savvy enough to be elected to high public office: (2) he sent dirty e-mails to young boys; (3) he quit when he was exposed; (4) he now pleads victimhood, says he was abused by a “clergyman” and goes for treatment for alcohol addiction.

On a 1 to 10 veracity scale with 10 being the highest I would give Mr. Foley at this juncture 0 to minus 1. For my own, cynical, speculation I’ll bet the “clergyman” is long since dead, if indeed he is ever disclosed.

I can see that he is a St Michael who won’t protect us in battle.

Perhaps a name change to reflect your fallen status would be in order St Mike.

.
Wish granted, it’s better to not confuse people…

Well, there is a poll on aol.com which is certainly not scientific but 51% said they believed Foley was lying about being molested by a clergyman.

If a man is capable of deceiving people like John Walsh of the Center for Missing and Exploited Children as to his true nature as a pedophile, he is certainly capable of lying about being molested by a clergyman to deflect responsibility. He certainly knew the media would run with that idea.

Let’s look at it, at first he tried to say his advances towards teenaged boys was due to alcoholism. But his should not have been drinking while also working (at least one explicit correspondence was going on only minutes before voting on the Iraq War). So, he decided to find another convenient excuse- blame an unnamed clergyman.

Interesting.
Jesus Christ was THE man who made the very institution you reject.
How can you claim faith in Christ but not His church?

Seems to me, you are doing the cherry-pickin’ …
I’ll take this one,
but not that one,
definitely not that one,
but yes, certainly that one…

Great defensive plan this man Foley has: blame an unamed clergyman with an unspecified religion (“clergyman” can refer to any religious leader in fact- including Imams, Rabbis, and protestant ministers among others).

I’m still scratching my head over the claim that the parents asked that nothing be done when it was brought to their attention…’

and that the person actually respected that request…

No doubt, he has taken his own horrible pain and shame and created a scapegoat, the alcohol, the molestation by the clergy man and made it public, It is horrific, he is not accepting responsibility and now a floodgate has open. He has Gay rights group speaking for him, victim rights groups for victims of sexual pedophile “clergymen”, and support groups for alcohol addiction. THE BOTTOM LINE IS:he needs Divine Intervention. Where did the problems begin?? With the Clergyman?! Perhaps. We need to pray for him.

IF he was willing to go public about being Gay, stating he was Catholic and then not clarifiying what Clergyman, it is a pretty obvious deduction on the truth of the matter.

Admittedly, there are plenty of school teachers, ministers, rabbis, priests, counselors that have sexually abused children. THE problem lies within the Catholic Church that there a was a systematic cover up. THIS LIES THE PROBLEM.

Again, I must repeat If evil is not exposed, it will never be dealt with.

I think the obvious answer is I no longer believe Christ founded the institution of the Catholic Church. If I believed he did, I wouldn’t have left.

Let’s keep this on topic though it’s a discussion for another time.

Dear Brick City, why did you leave??
Do you believe the Eucharist is the Body of Christ
Do you believe that you are given the Gift of the Holy Spirit thru celebration of the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation.
THis is the faith of the Church. DO you not believe that perhaps the goodness of the church came up against a horrible evil. We let the evil in, and it systematically seduced those which yearned to be most Holy.
Be at Peace,
Lisa

Me thinks Brick City Irish is an alias for St. Michael - same shock talk.

He is a Catholic and was molested by a clergyman, come on! You know as well as I do how this is going to turn out and why it’s on the front page.
Nothing like deciding the facts about something before the facts are discovered, is there?

I AM Catholic. But as a young person I…
  1. was not Catholic,
  2. went to lots of different denominations services and youth groups,
  3. knew of several ministers (not Catholic priests) who had sexual activities with young people. Married and unmarried clergy.
St Michael…the clergy are sinners just like the rest of us. But the Catholic Church is the church which Christ gave to Peter. You want to leave that. Ok. But I think you are leaving the path that leads to salvation.

The Lord is indeed close and he is doing a huge house cleaning.
.

Let’s hope so.

Priests are men and men are far from perfect, but these clergy abuses just need to end whatever it takes. Perpetrators need to be brought to justice and serve punishment if found guilty. Not only for the sake of our Church’s “image,” but for the victims’ sake and for the sake of potential victims.

As far as this Foley goes, we will see whether it was a Catholic cleryman or not and whether or not it was a true claim or not. The cynic in me would not be surprised if he was lying to arouse sympathy and take some of the heat off himself.
