Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Reading today’s Gospel for Mass, one sentence, underlined below, particularly struck me:
Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick–no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there.Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.” So they went off and preached repentance. They drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. - Mark 6:7-1
The word, “repentance” is also highlighted, because First Friday means “Reparation” and how can we truly seek to repair for sin, if we have not heard “repentance” urged by Christ – if we have not truly repented of our own sins and sins we see committed daily by others. The Twelve heard John the Baptist and then Jesus preach: “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand” ( Mt. 3:2 and Mt. 4:17). Jesus then sent them to preach the same message. As Church we too are called and sent by Jesus in Baptism and Confirmation. Popes have urged us – especially Pope Paul VI (“On Evangelization in the Modern World”) clearly stated: “The Church exists to evangelize”.

Tomorrow, God willing, many will try to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, receive Holy Communion in Reparation, perhaps make a Holy Hour, or offer other First Friday devotions. I wonder, however, how much genuine repentance is in our hearts. Do we really strive against even venial sins as we need to do? These are times of growing darkness in our world; we need to repent and believe in the Good News of Jesus Who has overcome the darkness of sin in our world. We need to beg His forgiveness and seek earnestly to let His Light shine from us.

May the Heart of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament be praised, adored and loved, with grateful affection at every moment in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the end of time. Jesus, I trust in You for the grace I need.

Come Holy Spirit, kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Let Your Love cast out our fears.
Mary, our Mother at Lourdes and Fatima, you asked us to do Penance, pray for us.

Thank You! My wife and I will be at mass tomorrow. I will have a more complete worship after reading this post.

***Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death
Amen.

Wow, tomarrow, February 6 th, is the tenth anniversary of my fathers death. He wasn’t practicing Christianity, but had an opportunity to repent to a hospice religious aid in a possible confession.

Anyways, I was looking back on my life (entwined with my fathers) and hope my repentance is pleasing to our Heavenly Father on both of our behalfs. I dought my Dad would believe who I’ve become and would probably cry tears of joy. I can only imagine he can see me perfectly through the eyes of God today. RIP dear Daddy.

I need to repent all the time!! Temptation is a big sin of mine. I do pray for God’s guidance in life. I hope to go to mass tomorrow

Dear ajecphotos,

Thanks for your reply. Temptation is not sin unless we succumb to it. Remember Jesus endured temptation in the desert by satan – to show us that God is greater than any temptation to sin.

All of us are tempted every day, but we must continue to pray as Jesus taught us:
Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name
Thy kingdom come
Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And deliver us from evil. Amen
I’m unable to participate in Mass today but I united myself with the Mass being offered in our parish earlier this morning and asked Jesus to come to me in a “spiritual communion”. By God’s Grace, I want to continue to offer Jesus my love and do what I can for others, in His Name. Please let us continue to make reparation to His Pierced Heart with Mary our Mother, today and every day – perhaps especially on First Fridays and First Saturdays!

Dear Giggly,

I join you in your prayers for your Dad, and I ask prayers for mine as well. I pray for all the souls in purgatory every morning. Yes, I’m sure your repentance is pleasing to our Heavenly Father and thus to all our earthly fathers as well.

Let us continue to repent and believe in the good news of God’s Great Love for us. He so loved the world He gave His Only Begotten Son. Jesus pierced on the cross showed us what love cost Him. Let us by His Grace, return love for Love!

Dear ajecphotos,

You can participate at Mass - even though, if you have committed a mortal sin, you cannot receive Holy Communion. Are you absolutely sure you committed a mortal sin? Go to Confession tomorrow and ask the priest to help you discern carefully. Remember temptation is not a sin. There are 3 conditions for Mortal Sin:
  1. It must be serious matter - that is to offend God in a very serious way. If you are not sure - share your uncertainty with the priest.
  2. A person must seriously consider committing the sin – that is think it over and not just do it on the spur of the moment.
  3. Full consent of the will - that is a person really wants to commit the sin and freely chooses to do it knowing it offends God and having thought about it.
Sometimes parishes have confessions before Mass, but most have them on Saturdays. Do go to confession tomorrow if you can’t go to confession tonight; and ask the priest to help you. If you have not already told God you are sorry for your sin do so now, with a sincere heart, ask Our Blessed Mother to pray for you. Tomorrow is First Saturday and it would be wonderful to receive Holy Communion and offer reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of our Mother Mary.

I was able to goto confession — without the kids!!! Now we just need my dear husband to go tomarrow.

Good for you, Giggly! Hopefully your husband will be able to receive the Sacrament of Confession today. When your kids are older, you can share more with them, but for now your good example is so important! Mothers are truly the “heart” of the home. 🙂

Thanks, ajecphotos,

Praise God that you were able to receive the Sacrament of Confession!

Keep praying the Prayer Jesus gave us: “Our Father…” Without Him we can do nothing, but by His Grace we can avoid sin and live holier lives. He will hear us when we pray “deliver us from evil.” His Mercy is new every morning! 🙂

DOMINUM ET VIVIFICANTEM (Lord and Giver of Life)
Pope Saint John Paul II
  1. Beginning from this initial witness at Pentecost and for all future time, the action of the Spirit of truth who “convinces the world concerning the sin” of the rejection of Christ is linked inseparably with the witness to be borne to the Paschal Mystery: the mystery of the Crucified and Risen One. And in this link the same “convincing concerning sin” reveals its own salvific dimension. For it is a “convincing” that has its purpose not merely the accusation of the world and still less its condemnation. Jesus Christ did not come into the world to judge it and condemn it but to save it.[114] This is emphasized in this first discourse, when Peter exclaims: “Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified”.[115] And then, when those present ask Peter and the Apostles: “Brethren, what shall we do?”, this is Peter’s answer: “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”.[116]
Peace

Thanks, hascompat! St John Paul II’s words of wisdom are always a blessing!

Yes, the “Our Father” is the perfect prayer! By God’s Grace, may we all continue to learn from Jesus to pray those words He taught us, very well. Let us listen to the words as we pray them and mean what we say!
