Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Reading today’s Gospel for Mass, one sentence, underlined below, particularly struck me:
Tomorrow, God willing, many will try to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, receive Holy Communion in Reparation, perhaps make a Holy Hour, or offer other First Friday devotions. I wonder, however, how much genuine repentance is in our hearts. Do we really strive against even venial sins as we need to do? These are times of growing darkness in our world; we need to repent and believe in the Good News of Jesus Who has overcome the darkness of sin in our world. We need to beg His forgiveness and seek earnestly to let His Light shine from us.
May the Heart of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament be praised, adored and loved, with grateful affection at every moment in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the end of time. Jesus, I trust in You for the grace I need.
Come Holy Spirit, kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Let Your Love cast out our fears.
Mary, our Mother at Lourdes and Fatima, you asked us to do Penance, pray for us.

The word, “repentance” is also highlighted, because First Friday means “Reparation” and how can we truly seek to repair for sin, if we have not heard “repentance” urged by Christ – if we have not truly repented of our own sins and sins we see committed daily by others. The Twelve heard John the Baptist and then Jesus preach: “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand” ( Mt. 3:2 and Mt. 4:17). Jesus then sent them to preach the same message. As Church we too are called and sent by Jesus in Baptism and Confirmation. Popes have urged us – especially Pope Paul VI (“On Evangelization in the Modern World”) clearly stated: “The Church exists to evangelize”.Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick–no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there.Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.” So they went off and preached repentance. They drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. - Mark 6:7-1
