They’re going to go out with a bang, or try to. Part of Sunday’s show will feature Adam Lambert mentoring the contestants through Queen’s catalog. And I think Adam and his hair will be back for the finale, too.

I’ll take The Voice over American Idol which really isn’t saying much since I don’t like it either.

It hasn’t been AMERICAN IDOL for years. Now it’s just a regular singing talent show which doesn’t really stand out from the rest other than the marquee brand.

I like Katy Perry. She’s doing a good job on the show. I think she’s taken a lot of grief over the years for her musical genre change and her lifestyle but I think it’s benign compared to many in Hollywood. Never knew that her mother was Catholic and Katy has actually met and admires Pope Francis and has attended Mass before. Perhaps she will be in RCIA someday…

Ok.

There are lots of shows I’ve never watched. If I were paralyzed and bedridden, though, I might be very grateful for those shows.

More shows of this kind should follow suite. Good riddance.

You’re right, no one ever knows.

When I first started liking my favorite actor over 20 years ago, he professed atheism. He was also an alcoholic.

His girlfriend told him she would not marry an alcoholic, so he started AA. He’s now been sober for over 20 years, and he DID marry his girlfriend and they’ve been married for over 20 years, and best of all–both he and his girlfriend are devout Christians who attend an Anglican Catholic Church. At least once a week, he posts a Bible verse or a word of personal testimony, and re-tweets his priest’s devotional comments.

He’s done all this without giving up his “rough-tough but soft and sweet” persona, which stills makes my knees weak!

And he’s active in several charities, including U.S.O.–he’s done four U.S.O. tours of some of the most dangerous countries in the world, and thrilled hundreds of military people!

I remember praying for him way back–so my advice is to pray for your show biz crushes!

My daughter has worked in the entertainment industry for almost 20 years, and she says it is one of the most resistant mission fields in the world. And yet, if and when our favorites turn to the Lord and become active in His Church–they have the opportunity to influence so many people.

I like her because I think she’s a very talented singer and entertainer and seems to be likeable judge on American Idol. There was a guy who tried out for American Idol who has some occult devil theme and she seemed visibly uncomfortable with that performance. Politically she is very much to the left of myself but she doesn’t seem to be obnoxious about it like other celebrities, she has said she wants to learn from people who don’t agree with her too. She is a non believer at the moment and I really didn’t care for her occultish themed shows a few years back but based on what I’m reading her head seems to be in the right place to return to her Christian roots.

I don’t think there’s any relativism, I was just comparing her to other celebrities that’s all.

How can any of us know this? A lot of entertainment is putting on an act, a really good act, and they do a good job of fooling us. Many “stars” who seemed to be living the good life surprised their fans by committing suicide. And others who seemed to be of the devil were actually discovered to be devout Christians (e.g., Alice Cooper).

Katy Perry comes across a certain way on Idol and on stage, but in real life, she may be totally different.

I think much of her singing is done by the studio techs who use all the tricks to make her sound good. I’m guessing that if you stood her up in front of a church congregation, she wouldn’t sound any better than most of the kids in the teen choir.

And there’s nothing at all “wrong” or sinful about “wishful thinking.” It gives us hope.

I’ve read about some of the “games” that people who were in WWII concentration camps used to play; e.g., cooking a delicious dish–all in their imaginations, of course. But it was something to do that gave them respite from their circumstances.

I see nothing wrong with “building castles in the air,” as it used to be called in the olden days.

Wishful thinking and dreams can and has led to great discoveries (e.g., the airplane).

You know the sarcastic humor runs deep with in me but I am not mean. I never really like Simon, I found him to be a jerk. Randy was cool and so was Paula. Never was a fan of the show to begin with though, I did try.

Actually, I had no idea of the association with opium use with a phrase that I became familiar with in the book, Little Women (and also Little Men) by Alcott.

Oh, well. I’ll still continue to use that phrase, and try to ignore the nefarious meaning.

And I think that’s what I’ll do with “wishful thinking”–use it for good.

Very true. I think once that group began to breakup, the show was never quite the same.

I think they could have made a way to see the more “bad” auditions but without the nasty comments or mocking from the judges.

I’d say most people knew who the winners were of the first few seasons and what season they won. Probably not the winners of recent years.

See, the encouraging mocking people is what turned me away from this program on day one.
Plus from what I heard at it’s peak most elements of the show (including the “bad” singers) were staged and not legitimate auditions. Even the judges comments were lines that they were always going to say and not an actual critique of the performance.

It was much more a TV show than a singing competition. Now it seems more like a singing show and the ratings aren’t very good.

This is the case for modern “reality” programming. It is “unscripted” scripted.

I honestly thought it was already canceled, and then was surprised that they “brought it back” this season xD
