By JOHN L. ALLEN JR.

According to a report by veteran Italian Vatican writer Andrea Tornielli, a miracle attributed to the late Pope John Paul II has been approved by both the medical and theological consulters of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
Code:
In effect, that clears the path for the beatification of John Paul II sometime in 2011. Tornielli suggests that the most likely dates would April 2, the anniversary of the pope’s death; May 18, his birthday; or October 16, the anniversary of his election to the papacy in 1978.

Although Benedict XVI typically does not celebrate beatification ceremonies himself, preferring that they be led by the local bishop and staged in the saint’s local diocese, in this case the beatification would be held in St. Peter’s Square in Rome and is expected to draw a vast crowd.

Before a date is set, the full body of cardinals and bishops who make up the Congregation for the Causes of Saints must approve the miracle and then submit their recommendation to Pope Benedict XVI.

Wow-this is wonderful!

I hope that, when and if a date is announced, that it will be later in the year. There’s going to be a lot of people who will want to make plans to attend!

I don’t know who Andrea Tornielli is and to read that he is a veteran writer does not convince me of his claim. The rest is old news and a lot of speculations. I would like to read an official statement by the priest in charge of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. These reporters want to be the first to report to earn a name but, I have learned that often times although they feel privy to confidential information or information that has not been released to the public they are often wrong or just for their violation of the confidentiality trusted to them the news is delayed or cancelled.

For example, there was a reporter some years ago on EWTN, who was supposedly a vatican veteran reporter and he said that Pope Benedict XVI had just finished his next book and that it should be out by April of that year and that it was at the press etc… The guy had come in from Rome for the interview of his work etc… Well, I am still waiting for the book. It was suppose to be on the Holy Spirit.

It looks to me as that John Allen Jr. is really filling in a lot with speculation and old news. Maybe he is basing all this on a private telephone conversation with Tornielli and bang, a breaking news article… I’m not packing.

So, I shall wait…

I want to go to Rome for Pope John Paul the Great’s beautification.

Peace,

Abba

Oh, how Pope John Paul would have loved this typo for beatification!

He had a theatrical background, didn’t he, and would have been acquainted with make-up and wigs. So who knows, if he had read this when he was alive, his fingers might have been itching to get at the greasepaint and costumes box to ‘beautify’ himself, now that it’s been suggested.

Perhaps he is smiling right now at the picture conjured up! I hope so.

Well, I hope I made him laugh the way you have made me laugh. :rotfl:

I am the worst communicator here. In one of my posts last night I destroyed the English grammar and for some reason I meant to type ‘predicament’ but typed ‘predicate’. I often type between chores too and in a hurry. If I edit and edit I can make it all look decent at the end but, I do not always take the time. Believe it or not with my serious language problem - I am writing a book. It’s of course going to be edited; checked for grammar and punctations etc…

I wonder if Socrates never wrote because it is so cumbersome…:newidea: There are people for whom writing does not come easy. I love to think and contemplate, but, when it comes to communicating I have to make an effort to slow down and concentrate on something other than what I am contemplating or thinking about, that is - writing, and it takes patience.

Anywho, I want to attend his beatification.

Peace,

Abba
