Joe Biden is not a Catholic in good standing because of his abortion endorsement. I think that the next four years will require steadfastness from pro-life advocates.

Yet, only a few clergy call him on it and how many Catholics voted for his expansion of abortion that he promised will come. A vote for Joe was a vote for abortion no matter how you tried to justify the vote. You knew it would come with your own personal issues

Another poster who believes they have the knowledge and authority to make these determinations about other Catholics.

I’m anti-abortion myself for years now, and not particularly in love with Biden, but the endless Biden-bashing and predictions of dire consequences if he takes office are a big turn-off.

You don’t believe what he said he will do? Abortion will expand immediately when he cancels the Mexico City policy which he says will be done in week 1

His actions convict him, not other people’s words

Can a Catholic in good standing conduct a SSM? He has not changed his views on this

Also, at this point everyone who cares is aware that Biden is pro-choice. There are people marooned on desert islands who have heard this issue discussed to death. Do we need endless threads on the exact same topic?

Can’t we get back to the old days where we just talked about whether yoga pants were sinful or whatever?
 
Really? His bishop reported that Biden is not a Catholic in good standing. Not my judgment – the Churches.

Edited to add, here is the only statement of which I am aware from Biden’s bishop, Bishop Malooly, the Bishop of Wilmington, Delaware, in the official Catholic newspaper of the Wilmington Diocese. Doesn’t say anything like what you claimed.

In any case, you must admit that we don’t need a magisterial statement or a paper from a Catholic bioethicist to know that Biden’s official positions are inimical to Christianity.

I have to admit, when Biden referenced On Eagles Wings during his speech, I about died laughing. It’s like he’s deliberately trolling CAF.
 
I see that David Muir effectively used Pope Francis yesterday to convey the deception that Biden is in step with Catholic thinking.

People doing bad things is one thing. I have done plenty. Wicked deception is a really bad one, and the media does it more wickedly than anyone.

All we know? Where has he changed his position from when he performed that marriage? He still holds the same position

The clergy has called him on his faith
In September, Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, wrote an open letter to Biden urging him to live by his faith and protect every human life.

“Nobody can or should force you to be a Catholic, and nobody can or should force you to be a defender of legal abortion. But you cannot be both at the same time,” Pavone wrote. “To claim to do so is an insult to all of us who proclaim and strive to live the Catholic Faith. And it invites the criticism that your public identification as a Catholic, while carrying water for the abortion industry, is simply the crass politics of seeking the money and votes of both constituencies.”

“The Catholic Church that I know is loving and compassionate toward all. People of all races and sexual orientations are welcome there. The government has long supported these ideals by allowing for tax exemption status. The government has long supported parishes, helped maintains their grounds and ministries for the benefit of all. I feel confident that we can continue a mutually beneficial relationship.
However, any church that practices discrimination and does not allow the use of it’s facilities for the benefit of all will have their tax exempt status removed. This small minority of intolerant people…who call themselves Catholic…must not be allowed to thwart the Church’s outreach to all.
For those we say: we are going to remove government support and prosecute offending parishes and pastors.”
That’s the speech you’ll see coming in the next, oh, decade.

Luckily the same Constitution that protects the right to bear arms protects freedom of religion.

If you think tax exempt status is going to be taken away you aren’t reading the audience correctly.
 
How can he do it ? With one term no senate and not enough supreme court justices - he can’t change anything and if he does manage to do it - it can be reversed by the next President. If the republican party is smart they will come up with a candidate that has a chance at 2 terms putting Trump there will just freeze the republican party where just Trump McConnell and Graham are running the party everyone else has disappeared or they say very little.

They responded it was the Church’s position, not their own, and claimed (with no source ) his bishop declared him not in good standing.

You said we don’t need a bishop, we can just make the determination.

We seem to be going in nonsensical circles here because those who don’t like Biden can’t accept that the Church is not doing anything about him and the Pope doesn’t seem to be bothered by his potentially getting elected.

I’m never going to admit any lay folk can just decide who’s a Catholic or not. I don’t care if we’re discussing Biden or Pope Francis. Y’all don’t have the authority.
