Anchorage, Alaska, Mar 30, 2010 / 04:43 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Reports in the New York Times and other media about a Wisconsin priest who sexually abused deaf children have been “sloppy and inaccurate,” the then-judicial vicar of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee has said. Correcting the public record, he said the claim Pope Benedict XVI was involved in the case is “a huge leap of logic.”

Unfortunately because of everything that has come to light, no one who is a mouthpiece for the church is going to be accepted as telling the truth unless they prove they’re telling the truth. It’s unfortunate, but that’s how it is, especially to anyone from the outside. It would be so much better for everyone if they would just hire an outside firm to come in and run an independent investigation of everything that is on the table and publish the findings and any recommendations.
 
Agreed. This is like listening to the Nixon White House “revealing” that stories about the White House’s involvement in Watergate were wrong. The church can expect no credibility when defending itself.

If the church has a divine charter, let it demonstrate this in its actions.
