Yesterday our pastor announced that, unlike past years, the Blessed Sacrament would not be in the church after the Holy Thursday mass. Instead, it would be in the adoration chapel. He said that this was being done to conform with the “Directives of the Liturgy” that state that the Blessed Sacrement should reside outside of the church after the mass. Given that the pastor and liturgy committee have a history of breaking, rather than enforcing rules (i.e. they’re moving the priest and deacon onto the floor of the church and putting the baptismal font and easter candle behind the alter for Easter season), a number of us are wondering where this instruction can be found. We’re also concerned because the chapel seats about a dozen people, and last year there were over 100 people in the church for the 3 hours after the mass ended.

Boy it must be a horrible state to be in when you belong to a parish where you don’t trust your own pastor.

AT our parish, we don’t have an adoration chapel, but we do have exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on a specially made side altar. Our church is open all night and we even have parishes in our dioceses that rent buses for people to make the pilgrimage to visit either 7 or 9 churches that night. We have been visiting churches on Holy Thursday now for the past 40 years, our children and their friends even tag along with us. They even come back over 300 miles from college…they don’t want to miss this strong family tradition.
Granted it is an inconvenience to have such a small space, but at least he’s not eliminating the practice entirely. God’s in charge, pray for your pastor’s change of heart next year if this does not work out.:o

In our parish the Blessed Sacrament is carried under a canopy to the side chapel. Adoration is from the end of Mass to midnight-some people go home for supper and come back later. There are only a few seats, but people go in and out in shifts, and it all works out.

At our Parish, our Altar of Repose for Holy Thursday/Good Friday is in the parlor of our Parish Hall.

With great reverence the Lord will be placed in this tabernacle on Holy Thursday. The KofC will stand as guards, and there will be others there praying at all times during this time.

Same here kage_ar. As for quotes, the document *Paschale Solemnitatis *from the CBCEW (originally from the CDWDS) says,
For the reservation of the Blessed Sacrament, a place should be prepared and adorned in such a way as to be conducive to prayer and meditation; that sobriety appropriate to the liturgy of these days is enjoined, to the avoidance or suppression of all abuses.55
When the tabernacle is in a chapel separated from the central part of the church, it is appropriate to prepare the place of repose and adoration there.

From the Roman Missal, for Holy Thursday:
“The Blessed Sacrament is carried through the church in procession, led by a cross-bearer and accompanied by candles and incense, to the place of reposition prepared in a chapel suitably decorated for the occasion. … The tabernacle of reposition is then closed. … The faithful should be encouraged to continue adoration before the Blessed Sacrament for a suitable period of time during the night …”.
(Roman Missal, Catholic Book Publishing Co., New York, 1985, page 139).

At least you have adoration. Our priest doesn’t like the devotion so he will not have it. I’ll probably go to another parish that day since I like to go to adoration once a year and Holy Thursday is a good day to go.
