if Catholic hospitals close, “catholic” obama voters…you do realize that it means ONE less place for the poor to get wonderful care…which means one of the works of mercy can’t be performed! Care for the Sick! I would bet Catholic hospitals do a LOT of health care for the poor and don’t turn anyone away…and democrats claim to care for the poor… They would be taking away an OPTION for those who want good health care in God’s presence.
Apparently, the Administration firmly believes that government is the only authorized distribution point for grace and mercy.

This Administration acts in a manner that suggests that government is God. That puts it squarely at odd with my faith, which commands,

“I AM the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods but Me.”

I marched with NICU nurses from a Catholic hospital at the March for Life Monday- they said the same thing. They are afraid their hospital will be closed. Scary times!
This is very serious, you could see Catholics losing their jobs.

HHS will just rehire them when the federal government takes over the hospitals and clinics that are abandoned by the Catholic Church because they refuse to violate their conscience. No worries!

Exactly the outcome this administration wants. The constitution is just an inconvience in obtaining the objective. The one year “grace period” (ironic) is designed to get them past the election. The Bishops and the Pope would do well to take this on this fight full on prior to November.

But they will probaby drop out of medicine because of the requirements to distribute abc, the morning-after pill, and even to participate or perform abortions. Altho it is very difficult to fire someone in the government, I’m sure there’ll be a fast-track for pro-lifers, and no union help for them either.

I think that is what what HHS wants. This administration must be fought!

But the USCCB and the Catholic Health Care Association were all pushing Obamacare until the Stupak Amendment debacle.
The USCCB messed up royally on this. Maybe God does provide the Holy Spirit to our Bishops on matters of faith and morals, but it’s clear that on practical matters of implementing those principles to public policy and politics, many of our Bishops are either clueless or just plain cowards to speak up. Of course, the excuse of the almighty tax exempt status always comes in handy when it comes to failing to speak up.

Another possibility, in addition to our Bishops being clueless, is that there is a “Fifth Column” of saboteurs inside the Church, and they are trying to destroy the Church from within.

In addition to the Bishops, we have the folks like Sr. Keehan and Fr. Jenkins, whom I wonder about - are they this clueless, or are they willing saboteurs and part of the Fifth Column?

I would love to ask Fr. Jenkins from Notre Dame University, who invited Barack Obama and gave him a Honorary Doctorate from Notre Dame, how is that Doctorate compatible with the man trying to use the force of the government to destroy Catholic healthcare institutions? And what will Notre Dame do now? Will they offer healthcare with contraceptive/abortive pills to their employees, or will they just drop healthcare coverage for all employees at Notre Dame?

Representative Chris Smith thinks that the Obama administration’s decision to force religious organizations to purchase health insurance plans in violation of their consciences is an attempt to force “Catholic health care to cease to be.”

Sooner or later they will try to force all healthcare institutions to offer abortive/contraceptive drugs, followed by surgical sterilizations and surgical abortions, as a mandatory condition to retaining their licenses to offer healthcare. When that happens, Catholic hospitals and clinics will go out of business.

The Democrats already drafted federal Senate and House bills that would force all pharmacists and all pharmacies to carry abortive/contraceptive drugs or lose their licenses (similar state regulations have been passed by Democrat governors Christine Gregoire and Rod Blagojevich in Washington and Illinois states). But now I wonder, instead of trying to pass a Federal law to this effect (which the Democrats can’t at this time in the House, since they are in minority), will the Obama - Sebelius team simply pass a government regulation and a government mandate to this effect, totally bypassing Congress?

The first attack may come only against pharmacists and pharmacies, but I don’t doubt that they will eventually broaden the attack, and the mandate to offer contraceptive/abortive drugs, to include clinics and hospitals. Later on they will also mandate healthcare institutions to offer surgical sterilizations and surgical abortions. First they start with mandating only chemical sterilizations and chemical abortions, because they tighten the noose gradually around our necks. But, I think, they will eventually move to mandating surgical sterilizations and abortions as well, after they have succeeded in mandating that all clinics and hospitals offer drugs to that effect.

But I was told on Catholic Answers that he wants to REDUCE poverty and abortions!!!
Well, he does. If you invest in sterilization programs via the UN, contraception, and abortion, you will have less people. Less people means less people having abortions or living in poverty. See? No muss, no fuss.

And if you think that’s evil, well evil is an outdated term linked to things like religion, which science has proved false. And science is never wrong.

So there you go. All neat and tidy.

It’s also a lie, but who are we to judge?

One should never equate USCCB with “the bishops”. USCCB is a largely lay-run organization, supposedly subject to the authority of the bishops, but run by laypersons with an obvious pro-Democrat bias. Equating USCCB with “the bishops” is giving the bishops a bad rap. My own bishop, for example, wouldn’t even take up the collection for CCHD in the diocese, and didn’t encourage anybody to donate to it. Actually, he discouraged it by recommending donations to the diocesan Catholic Charities organization right at the same time the CCHD appeal for funds came out. And he certainly wasn’t cowardly in advising against abortion supporting politicians in 2008.

Sr. Keehan is a liberal, and remember, a lot of healthcare providers thought Obamacare would be a money tree for them. So, she supported Obamacare all the way through, even after the worthless Stupak Amendment was rejected.

We already know where Fr. Jenkins is.

So, it is not nutty to think there are “fifth columnists” within the Church. But I would not include “the bishops” in that. Yes, there have been are probably still are, some bishops who think more like Democrats than like bishops. But certainly some of the older bishops and seemingly all of the newer ones are faithful pastors and teachers.

Pope Backs US Bishops’ Concern About Religious Freedom
zenit.org/article-34152?l=english
The Bishop of Rome said it is “imperative that the entire Catholic community in the United States come to realize the grave threats to the Church’s public moral witness presented by a radical secularism which finds increasing expression in the political and cultural spheres.”
“Of particular concern,” he continued, “are certain attempts being made to limit that most cherished of American freedoms, the freedom of religion.”
The Pontiff noted concerns about the right of conscientious objection on the part of Catholic individuals and institutions with regard to cooperation in intrinsically evil practices; and a tendency to reduce religious freedom to mere freedom of worship without guarantees of respect for freedom of conscience.
The Pope has identified this as a grave threat. Are we listening to our shepherd?

As the wicked witch in the ‘wizard of oz’ put it…What a world…What a world!

I am seriously disheartened that I will no longer be able to help people as a healthcare professional if (Obama is re-elected) this law passes.

Radical secularism stinks. We are being attacked. :knight2:

And yet…Catholics voted Obama into office, in the same proportions as his other supporters. He didn’t hide his stance on life, either.

I have seen this stated several times throughout the forum so I am curious…How do you know this?

I did not reveal that I was Catholic when I registered to vote, does anyone give religious affiliation when registering…do they keep track of this during the counting of the votes? I personally did not vote for Obama.

One guy even had the audacity to say you Catholics voted for Obama so you get what you asked for… Where is this coming from?

Please educate me on this. Rather than be argumentive; I genuinely want to know how these statistic are derived? Thanks in advance.

Peace.

Before answering that question, let me cite one more vitally important piece of polling information: Among Catholic voters who attend Mass weekly, McCain won majority support: 54- 45%. Among those who do not attend weekly Mass, the margin for Obama was an overwhelming 61- 37%. Thus Obama drew his support from inactive Catholics. And unfortunately, most American Catholics are inactive.

I can’t speak for “the bishops” anymore than the USCCB can. But the USCCB and the Catholic Health Care Association were all pushing Obamacare until the Stupak Amendment debacle. Why they didn’t see things like this coming is beyond my powers of comprehension. And it isn’t over either. Not by a long shot.

But I would at least quibble a bit with Chris Smith. Sure, the Obama bunch would like to do away with “Catholic healthcare” to the extent it still exists. But it’s deeper than that. They don’t like Catholicism, period, because it is a life view very different from their own.
Someone needs to tell that to the catholics driving around with Obama '08 bumber stickers on their cars. Come to think of it, someone needs to tell the catholic bishops that its wrong to lend legitimacy and support to pro-abortion politicians by giving them a platform to speak. The typical answer is, " Governor so and so may be pro-abortion, and we disagree with her, but she’s speaking about immigration rights, not abortion."

To liberal Catholics, abortion is… just another issue. This is true of liberal catholics, and all too many priests and bishops. The reason we’re talking about the anti-catholic Obama is because there are too many liberal catholics who aren’t truly pro-life.

Exactly correct. This is what Obama wants. The man is a covert Communist who is slowly and deliberately destroying every institution in this country that isn’t directly controlled by the government. What he wants, in the end, is a monolithic Soviet-style socialist state where everything, literally, is micromanaged by the central government.

I’ll sign it and send it, but it’s a waste of time. The passage of Obamacare should have been enough to prove to everyone that neither Congress or Obama gives a rat’s hindquarters about what we want. We clearly told them in one town hall meeting after another that we didn’t want it, and they rammed it down our throats anyway. The only thing that will ever get the attention of these people, I’m sorry to say, is brute force: the people are simply going to have to take a stand and say, “No, we won’t. If you try to force us to, you’re going to have to fight us.”

But the people are afraid to do that right now. They’re still trying to hang on to what little they’ve got left and not endanger it—they don’t want to rock the boat and lose it. Unfortunately, they’re going to lose it anyway, because that’s what the gang in Washington wants, and it’s only going to be when the people have nothing left to lose that they’re finally going to be spurred enough to take action. By then, it will either be too late and we’ll be living under a police state, or it’ll be a much, much tougher fight to regain our liberties than it would be if we did something right now----because if we did, the gang in Washington would back down.

When the government lives in mortal fear of the people, you have liberty.

When the people live in mortal fear of the government, you have tyranny.
