I still don’t understand. Is it also OK for Obama to BE Christian? If he brings up his Christian beliefs on occasion, maybe it’s because he is Christian. Shouldn’t we give him the benefit of knowing that? Do you believe he is lying? Or are you saying it’s OK for him to be Muslim?
No I don’t believe he is lying. I was responding to your point of let’s grow up. And yes, it’s okay for him to be Muslim too.

In any case, it’s not his religion that keeps me from voting for him. It’s his failed policies and radical pro-abortion stand that keep me from voting for him.

👍

The only problem I have is why does Obama refer to his Christian beliefs on so many issues?
Because his actions are so opposite from Christian teaching that he needs to remind us that he’s a Christian. One is as one does. I have no claim to know what he believes but his actions tell me he does not exactly have the heart of Christ beating in his chest.

Humility?
Self sacrifice?
Love of the weakest of these?
Personally making an effort to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick
(no taking my tax dollars to pay off your friends doesn’t count)

I would prefer a non believer in office if he or she ACTED as a person of faith than someone who says he believes but does not reflect this in his actions.

So given these statistics from 2008, how exactly would the GOP support all life beside empty talk?

abort73.com/abortion_facts/us_abortion_statistics/
The Mexico City Policy would still be in effect(or dont non-US children count)?. Catholic employers like myself would not be forced to cover abortificants and contraception for their employees(or drop their coverage0, conscience clauses would still medical professionals to refuse to participate in abortions would still be in effect, Planned Parenthood funding would be significally reduced(republican attempts to do so were blocked by Democrats and an Obama veto threat). Most importantly we would not be led by a man who believes killing children is a right. Supporting abortion does not happen in a vacuum-it permeates everything one does. A person who supports unrestricted abortion on demand is morally unfit to hold any position of leadership.

Now given the rate of unemployment and the poverty rate please tell us exactly how the Democrat party is going to help the poor besides empty talk?

I was involved with a Care Net center.

Perhaps to some, but for my part I always hope and pray that our leaders have morals that are grounded in faith, whatever that might be and however it might be expressed. However, common courtesy if nothing else dictates that our political leaders share something about the basis of that faith foundation, if they do indeed intend to assert it in the public domain and in connection with the execution of their responsibilities.

In this case, if Obama’s faith is not to be made an issue, in fairness, nor should Romney’s. The moral values of both men should stand on their own merits alone, with no reference whatsoever to observance of faith and preference of worship.
My view is that if candidates wish to bring up their religious faith and their morals based on that faith, I think they should do so. If they don’t wish to bring it up, that’s also fine with me. But in neither case should candidates be penalized for the profession of their faith or the preference to keep their faith a private matter. There should be no litmus test for the presidency based solely on specific religious belief or lack of religious belief.

A president with the right values and policies could be Zoroastrian, and I would support him.

Here’s one just across the river from St. Louis

I do plan on watching the DNC.
I’ll do as I did with the RNC…watch the heavy hitters and a select few others. Generally speaking, all conventions become repetitive to the point of absurdity.

To the point of nausea, I believe. Let’s see what rags-to-riches stories the DNC can come up with.

Given what Obama has done for the economy I think they will have more luck finding riches to rags stories! I’ve sure seen a LOT of them in this community sadly.

Jokes aside, honestly I loved the stories of Marco Rubio, Mia Love, Paul Ryan, Chris Christie. That IS the American dream, the reason for the Statue of Liberty’s plaque…bring us… your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…"

Maybe it’s a girl thing but I found these stories inspirational. If the point was to demonstrate which side of the aisle promotes opportunities for all, they hit a home run with the wonderful speakers.

I always liked Bobby Kennedy’s one speech…“I was born in a 27 room log cabin.”

Actually a brilliant move when you think about it…defuse the cirticism by embracing it and making fun of it. Reagan was also exceptional at this.

It’s not strictly a girl thing: some of the stories were inspirational. However, there are so many of them! The only moment I found truly touching, because it was so sincere, was when Rick Santorum talked about his little daughter, Bella.

Ha! Maybe rags-to-riches-to-rags stories at the DNC.

Riches? Whoa…whoa…whoa…there will be no “riches.” The GOP is the party of the (evil, stinking, filthy) “rich.” It will be rags-to-nicer-looking-rags stories. 😉 😃

You have a good point. LOL However, I think the country-club Rockefeller Republican stereotype is no longer viable. Now it’s the redneck Republican stereotype.
