Request to honor atheist rejected

This thread is about a request to erect a commemorative street sign for Madalyn Murray O’Hair, the founder of American Atheists and the plaintiff in the 1960s U.S. Supreme Court case that found prayer in public schools to be unconstitutional.

Councilman Franklin Thompson said his constituents also urged him to vote against the sign. “It was too divisive,” he said. “Our streets shouldn’t be used as a political football.”
Its hard to argue against that.
 
Fortunate that it was not the Berkley city council. They would have named TWO streets in her honor! Its good to see this city council operating responsibly. Now lets see if the ACLU sues them…Roanoker
