I do not chat in Church. But should someone say to me, “Good morning, how have you been? Is everything going ok?” I wouldn’t be so rude as to snap my finger, point to the tabernacle and then place my forefinger over my lips and go “sssshhhhhsssshhh.”

Chatting during the homily would be rude and out of place since it takes place during Mass.

Charity means love of neighbor as yourself. Do you agree? If not, why not?

Chatting is rude before Mass as well. Jesus is there waiting to hear from you He speaks to us in a still small voice that one cannot hear if one is having to endure listening to other people. I did a lot of chatting (about dancing of all things) after Mass today. That chatting was in an area where there is a stone picknic table and benches. The conversation was enjoyable. I was able to meet a very interesting member of the parish. We interrupted no one’s prayers.

I also wonder what the Lord thinks of his rude children who judge others without the omniscience necessary to understand their motivation.

I do know that He spoke about those who point out the sin in others while ignoring their
own.

Why do you say the offenders were “judged” by others? Their behavior was thought unacceptable. No one judged any motives. They are probably quite un-culpable, but nevertheless need to mind their manners and be considerate of others.

No one said anything about responding rudely. But it wouldn’t be out of place to smile and whisper a response, that way being charitable while at the same time encouraging quiet. Also, sometimes just a smile and a nod are suffucient.

The first and most important commandment is to love God with our whole heart, mind and soul. After that, but just as true, we are to love our neighbor as our selves. You’re forgetting Someone here.

When in a Catholic Church at Mass time, people need to act differently than they do at other places/times of the day.

Anyway,“brotherly correction” is a form of charity.
