The CATECHISM of the CATHOLIC CHURCH, Second Edition revised in accordance with the official Latin text promulgated by Pope John Paul II.

" The Catechism of the Catholic Church, which I approved…and the publication of which I today order by virtue of my Apostolic Authority, is a statement of the Church’s Faith and of Catholic Doctrine, attested to or illumined by Sacred Scripture, the Apostolic Tradition, and the Church’s Magisterium.
I declare it to be a sure norm for the teaching the Faith and thus a valid and legitimate instrument for ecclesial communion. " - Pope John Paul II (pg 5 CCC)

As the late Cardinal John O’Connor once said: * “The Catholic Church is not a salad bar. We can not pick and choose what we want to believe.”*

We must do our best to adhere to everything in the "Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition". It must be taken in its entirety.
It was first published in the USA in March 2000.
(There are references to Holy Scripture and Church Dogmas in the footnotes, for those who wish to learn more.)

In the USA, the CCC can be purchased through various Catholic religious catalogs on the internet, most Catholic bookstores, some Parish offices, the USCCB web site and even Amazon.
It has a dark green cover, with the words: “revised in accordance with the official Latin text promulgated by Pope John Paul II”. The CCC has over 900 pages.

The CCC covers all the issues regarding our Faith and Morals that we required to follow.
And is the only catechism from the Magisterium.

Non-Catholics may find the CCC 2nd Ed interesting, since you will know the truth of what the Catholic Church teaches.
It makes a great reference.
I’m a firm believer that when you want to know what a particular church teaches, we should go directly to the source rather than hearsay, to insure against errors.

The CCC is a “must” for every Catholic home, and makes a great gift for anyone over age 15.

Very nice. Nothing in life is ever taken in its entirety. Banana skins I would never eat. Apple seeds I spit out. I like the flower on broccoli but not the stem. My children leave partially finished glasses of lemonade everywhere. I’m often late to Mass. And I can never get the entire tube of toothpaste emptied.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains a summary of ALL Church teachings (infallible and non-infallible) plus disciplines.
What the OP is saying is that Catholics must accept everything in the CCC.
Whether you sin or not is a different matter (that’s why we have Confession) but you must accept all of the Church teachings. Catholics cannot reject any.

Watch me.

Yes. And with any literary work, there are powerful moments of enlightenment, and then ghastly passages that make me shutter. But then again, it is written by men and therefore fallible.

“moments of enlightenment” = passages I agree with

“passages that make me shutter[sic]” = passages I disagree with

Would that be a fair translation, as it were, of your experience? I can’t imagine you read the Church’s teaching on same-sex attraction and had a moment of enlightenment 🤷

Just wondering.

Fascinating Freudian misspelling, when applied to the mind’s reaction. 😉

Yes it is a “sure norm for teaching the Faith” a “valid and legitimate instrument for ecclesial communion”.

*I love it *and use it all the time…(as one can see in my posts).

It is a very beautiful text!!

One needs to remember though there are various degrees of things in the Catechism:

This little summary of various kinds of assent we are to give as Catholics…

Let us follow Christ faithfully…living our YES of Faith …living our Baptism! In joy!

Indeed…let us read and love and live what we find in the pages of the Catechism.

In case I am misunderstanding you are you saying that there are teachings in the CCC that you reject. If so, which ones?
church teachings on :

in vitro/ artificial insemination / contraception / masturbation / homosexuality / bisexuality

That’s rather comprehensive.

But so comprehensive that Why Stop There? 😉
Elizabeth!! Are you encouraging me to sin???

I would expect your kind to fight tooth and nail to drag me bodily from the cliff overhanging Gehenna.

I’m very disappointed.

You walk yourself to or from any edge you choose, and do what you decide to do – that’s just how it works.

But back to the topic…

Perhaps you should get yourself a red marker and make the needed corrections to the CCC. Send your corrected version off to Rome and see what happens. I’ve heard many of “your kind” insist that change in the Church always happens from the pews. You might want to grab a copy of the Bible, too, and write in what the text is** really **saying, and just plain delete the parts you don’t like.

If your changes are accepted by Rome, we will all finally have the correct version for us spineless, bigoted, unthinking (hence unenlightened) peons to mindlessly follow. What a gift you will have given to the world!

If your changes are rejected by Rome, you’ll at least have the basis to start the latest new branch of protestantism.

Perhaps you should get yourself a red marker and make the needed corrections to the CCC. Send your corrected version off to Rome and see what happens.(If only it were that easy!) I’ve heard many of “your kind” insist that change in the Church always happens from the pews. You might want to grab a copy of the Bible, too, and write in what the text is** really saying(many translators have done that already)**, and just plain delete the parts you don’t like 🙂

If your changes are accepted by Rome, we will all finally have the correct version for us spineless, bigoted, unthinking (hence unenlightened) peons to mindlessly follow. What a gift you will have given to the world! (actually this is not my desired conclusion. If you didn’t counter my versions in debate, I would be most disappointed. No one should mindlessly follow anything).

If your changes are rejected by Rome, you’ll at least have the basis to start the latest new branch of protestantism (I know it’s heresy (I’m a professional at this), but the reforms in the Counter-Reformation and the Council of Trent were really thanks to, dare I say his name, Martin Luther!) (I’m going to hell in a hand-basket for sure now!).
