I will respect any religious belief that does not disrespect any other religious belief.
As a Catholic:

I will respect persons and the fact that the vast majority of people are simply trying to do their best.

I will not respect every religion and their teachings, because many of them are flawed to the point of being a detriment to the societies in which they exist.

The thing that continued to appall me as it had when I received my first copy of the BoM was their claim that the BoM is “another testament of Jesus Christ.”
The BOM is not another testament of Christ. It’s a testament of another Christ.

My father left the Mormon church in his late teens, and they didn’t stop bothering him until he was in his 50’s. Then the local bishop called him and told him he’s no longer baptized Mormon. I didn’t know you could take away someone’s baptism. 🤷‍♀️

EXACTLY!!! I just wish they realized that.

You can’t take away a valid baptism. Mormon baptisms aren’t valid. So they can be taken away at a moment’s notice.

For me on this day in light of the passing of the prophet, seer, and revelator and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Thomas S Monson, this man would sit in the Cathedral of Catholicism in Salt Lake City, respecting what Catholics believe and in other churches, respecting what those believed recognizing that his beliefs differed from his. He gave everyone respect whether one was religious or not.

It is sad to me, in light of how this man lived his life in action and words, the LDS church is disrespected as usual here on the forums. If Pope Francis had passed away, I would be respectful of his passing and not do
My FRIEND,

As along Poster here on CAF, I have no problem with the issue of respect; UNTIL it infringes upon religious TRUTHS; which can only be singular per define issue. Even then I endeavor to practice charity; BUT I cannot morally avoid my responsibility as a Catholic Catechist to TEACH God’s Truths.

Did Jesus ever compromise His MORALS to accommodate others views? … I don’t think so.

If your on a CATHOLIC FORUM and espouse religious views contrary to the RCC and expect no pushback; perhaps your on the wrong FORUM???

May God guide your path.

TRUTH my friend can only be what it actually is; singular per defined issue. If your here to debate your faith is better; than fine; lets do that; but do not expect us to accept it just because “you” say it is so

Patrick

The only way I see that happening is if he had been excommunicated.

I don’t care how many lists they think they have me on. It’s not working for them. My getting an updated version of the BoM works against them, actually.

Any amount of money actually spent on their books is too much. Yes, I could go to the library if i wished to. But I’d have to return the book which doesn’t serve my purposes for having it, and the version they have is the one I got in the '80s. So why bother?

There is also an online version of the BoM, which, sadly, I discovered after having ordered mine. Many alternatives to paying for it. I use the BoM to refute their claims not to become a member of their church.

I think you have said it very well.

Fortunately, dioceses and the conferences of bishops are very good in the statements that they publish on these matters. The important thing is to focus on them…not the postings of laity.

From the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
January 3, 2018

Today, President Thomas S. Monson, leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. President Monson as the church’s 16th president presided over a faith community that now numbers 15.8 million members. Known for his hands-on approach and concern for the poor, he also presided over a church confronting challenges and change, within and without.

His Eminence, Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued the following statement on receiving the news of President Monson’s death:

“The Catholic Church in the United States wishes to extend to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints community our prayers and condolences on the death of President Monson. During his tenure as president, understanding and friendship developed between our two communities on national and local levels. As we engage important questions on family and the dignity of the human person, Catholics and Mormons work together and support each other. Today, Catholics join their Latter-day Saints brothers and sisters in commending his soul to the mercy and love of God.”

That’s fine for you, although my advice was more steered toward Lemeul, the poster complaining about Mormon missionaries following up on the “free” BoM copies they give away. If you are cool with being on their list and being contacted, get your free BoM. Others might be more comfortable just buying a copy for a modest price and think its a worthwhile investment to avoid the followup which they see as awkward or uncomfortable.

What are you talking about? I never said anything about that.

Mea culpa on this, it was apparently someone else who was complaining about LDS elders following up on the “free” BoM’s they distribute.

No problem at all. Just wanted to correct it.

But just for the record, I would not only not complain if the missionaries showed up at my door, I would welcome them with open arms (and a few questions 😇)

Lemuel is a former Mormon who, I expect, already has their books. He knows their games.

Also, you quoted my post which, of course, makes it seem your comments were directed to me.

I used to have a huge library of LDS books but have none left. The only LDS literature I’ve had in my house over the last few years is stuff that LDS people have sent me and my Catholic wife promptly discards them! Not that I mind.

I won’t spend any money that will wind up in the hands of the church. They already have several hundreds of thousands of dollars that I gave when I was a naive active Mormon. They aren’t getting any more from me.

It’s too bad that when a Mormon decides to leave that church and its religion behind they can’t get all the money they donated back.

I don’t expect that. I knew when I donated that it was a one-way ticket. I just wish I had known what I know now a long, long time ago.
