Be careful not to conflate Dogma, which is the unchanging and unchangable part of the deposit of faith, with Doctrine, which, except for those parts infallibly defined, is subject to revision and clarification.Doctrine is a very serious word that describes a very serious thing: an unchangeable teaching held in the deposit of faith. I recommend extreme caution in using the word. Careless use of the word will lead to serious misunderstandings.
In my conversion process, I was careful to be sure I understood what the Church means when it uses the word “doctrine”. Subsequently, as I have begun preparing for seminary, I revisited its meaning under the tutalage of a priest. Again, I recommend caution in the use of the word.
