I have to give a bit of background. In january of last year I was diagnosed and had pancreatic cancer. With a lot of prayer 11 days later at M.D.Anderson in Houston the tumors had miracously turned benign. I still had to have the worst abdominal surgury theyve invented, the whipple, to remove the tumors. While still in Houston but out of the hospital on good friday i fell asleep on the couch, awoke to a show on television about the crucifixition, not much at all about the resurrection. I then awoke again with this awful, worst ever feeling that when you died that was it that was all there was. I felt strongly that way until mass on easter sunday when it almost completely went away. I felt it less and less til only a small feeling ever so often.

I went to see my priest who called it a resurrection expereeince probably brought on by subconciuos fear of death. he said he would love to have this type of experience it showed that my faith was being attacked. I hated it it was the worst ever.

has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Has anyone heard of a resurrection experience? I have not.

I found that the churchs defense of the reality of the resurrection which I looked up really helped me a lot. I had been an agnostic growing up after being in a baptist church and then I was granted faith when I converted to catholisim some 15 yrs ago and had never had my faith attacked.

Anyone who has any comment i would love to hear from you.

Remember Renew? This is the next “Renew.”

Some Parishes have Resurrection “events” where you (and other participants) get together to have a “resurrection experience,” which is a strengthening of faith and dispelling of doubts.

This is what Father meant. The use of the term was not related to the medical circumstances of your “experience” or the fact that you may have, indeed, been “at death’s door” (and closer to an *actual *“resurrection experience” than most people who go to those seminars).

FWIW, I’m not sure where the name came from. It doesn’t really seem to fit. Maybe all the good names were already taken.

I would not term it a “Resurrection experience” (never heard of the term), but I did once have an “insight” or whatever one might call it of being absolutely devoid of God. Very brief, just a flash, and not something I want to experience again. Perhaps, I don’t know, it was an insight into hell.

Now I have had my moments of doubt, which I think is a fairly common experience among believers, if they are honest, (and some of the great Saints have experienced doubt), but this was not like that at all. At those moments I need only recall some very special graces I have received, or I can use reason to dispel those doubts. This was entirely different.

I have read posts on these forums before from people who have had a similar experience, perhaps they will share them again.
