Retired bishops join pro-Planned Parenthood group in call for Catholic funding of pro-abort orgs
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 14, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Ten Catholic bishops teamed up with a pro-Planned Parenthood group to a release a report this week that urges Catholic organizations to fund groups linked to the promotion of abortion and other acts opposed by the Church.

The 28-page report, released Tuesday by the advocacy group Faith in Public Life, targets Catholic critics of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, accusing them of adopting “McCarthy-era tactics” in their quest to rid the USCCB-run organization of problematic partnerships.

The opening pages of the report include a list of endorsing groups and individuals, including nine retired U.S. bishops and one sitting bishop (Bishop Kevin Dowling of Rustenberg, South Africa). The retired bishops listed are Archbishop Fiorenza, Bishop William S. Skylstad of Spokane, Bishop John S. Cummins of Oakland, Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, Bishop Ricardo Ramirez of Las Cruces, Bishop Peter Rosazza, Bishop Sylvester Ryan of Monterey, Bishop Joseph Sullivan, and Bishop John Leibrecht of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. Archbishop Fiorenza and Bishop Skylstad are both former presidents of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Identifying individual parishes, clergy, or hierarchs as “unfaithful to the Magisterium”, guilty of “liturgical abuse”, or otherwise engaged in unacceptable or unpopular practices, based on personal “knowledge” or opinion

Negative and rude comments toward CAF members, clergy (deacons, priests and bishops) or toward religious and religious orders are banned.
The only comment I can make about this article within CAF rules is:

Sigh.
 
One of the most effective ways to reduce poverty is to increase the traditional marriage rate. But I doubt promoting traditional marriage is part of Faith in Public Life.

Groups which ignore the plight of abortion and redefining marriage or promote abortion and/or redefining marriage shouldn’t be supported by any committed Catholic.

This is not based on “personal knowledge or opinion.”

Nor is it negative and rude comments. It’s the truth.

If LifeSite makes factual statements, those are factual statements made by LifeSite.

The only comments I could make in regards to the conduct of these retired hierarchs would be rude, negative, and disrespectful.

Therefore, I will just say “sigh” and be done with it.

Just a question to clarify the rules for myself, since this is a news article not just someone’s opinion, don’t the CAF rules allow for it to be posted?

The slide continues. Obviously we are not spending enough time on our knees praying for restoration of Holy Mother Church. Our Lady has warned of this numerous times. Pray for Holy, Devout Bishops, Priests and Religious to lead Christ’s Church.

It’s my understanding that it is allowed to be posted, but you must be careful in how you respond to the factual comments against the clergy in the article.

If that is not the case, maybe the mods could elaborate on what is and is not allowed.
 
This is just a piece of news. I am sure we are not to blame for the scandal. Also I guess it is never too late for anyone to experience the thrill of a latae sententiae reserved to the Holy See…
