Return of Christ set to May 21st 2011

Today i saw a billboard that reads: “Save the date for Christ’s return May 21st, 2011”
i was so intrigued that i went to their website to see under what grounds they claim this.
i could not find anything specific other that this is a cult spending a great amount of money on spreading this message, they even have a radio station.

i’m just wondering what your thoughts are

I know Many protestants spend much time looking for signs in the world and in the headlines and anxiously await the tribulation because it will inaugurate the so called rapture and millennium. but setting a date for Christ’s return is way off specially when Jesus clearly teaches that His return will be like a thief in the night and only God the Father knows that day!
 
Reminds me of this group when I was young in the Philippines. The plastered the entire Metro Manila with posters declaring the date of the rapture. That date came and went.

On the bright side, all this spending is helping the economy.
 
These people will lose faith when it doesn’t happen. They trust themselves over the Word of God, who says that “not even the angels know the hour”.
 
This is such a joke people - dont believe this lie.
Look at the date 5 - 21 - 2011
which equals
12 - 25 - 2011
they just played with the numbers to scare you, dont FALL for it.

From time immemorial there has been end of the world predictions. None has obviously ever come true. Jesus said: "No one knows when that day or hour will come. Even the angels in heaven and the Son don’t know. Only the Father knows. Mark 13:32
We are advised to live our lives in readiness for that moment, for it can happen in the blink of an eye!

when I do hear predictions like this remember that the Bible says no one will know the time… Crazy

I hope our Lord returns soon. I mean, how much more will He let go on? ( the rampant sin, the blasphemies…)

I get so depressed about the world sometimes and all of the evil in it.

its easy to do my friend. but then you have to think about Gods good gifts. sushi. pizza. beer. the beach. one thing that helps is also to get involved with service in your local parish. im sure you already do. but then we are doing something to counteract all the negatives. and we are bringing goodness to a hurting world. Peace to you and yours. don let your self get to down. ive come the conclusion that Christ will come, right on time. 🙂

im going to wake up on May 22, still in iraq im sure. should be getting much warmer by then though. good deal. 😛
 
Don’t all Christians believe Christ will one day return? If so, why is it that whenever someone suggests his return will be soon, mainstream Christians usually consider the person a nutcase?

I’m not trying to ridicule, it is just something I’ve wondered for many years.

It’s not a question of ridiculing someone who, “suggests his return will be soon”, but rather those who try to predict the exact time / date when Christ himself said that such information is not available.
Rather we are to expect Him at anytime and live our lives accordingly.

Those who try to make such predictions are usually very bible oriented and yet seem to miss the whole idea that we cannot know the exact day or hour.

Just take a look at the last 30 years of National Enquirer and Weekly World News. Every year: “Secret Fatima Message Reveals End of the World,” “Secret Nostrodamus Prophecy Predicts End of the World in 1987!” “Space Aliens Announce End of the World,” “Mayan Calendar Shows Date of the End,” “End of the World Predicted on Y2K.”

It helps sell papers to the gullible. Religious figures are used to make it all more convincing. Also, Jesus gave us signs to watch for.

So someone who claims “we can know” is really claiming to know something that even the Son doesn’t know, i.e. they are somehow greater than the Son because they know and He doesn’t.

That’s not the side of the room I want to be standing in when He does come.

If someone claimed to have a list of the next ten presidents, we’d rightly think that they were a bit “off,” right? Because no one knows who the next ten presidents are, save for God. So any claims to have an exact list are laughable. This is true even if we all agree that there are going to be ten more presidents.

Likewise, we all agree Jesus is coming back. But anyone claiming to have inside information, when He said that “no one will know the day or the hour” in Matthew’s Gospel is claiming to have knowledge about God’s plan that God announced He would not be revealing in advance. So the whole claim is riddled with internal holes, logically.

Because it is written in Scripture that if anyone says that Christ is coming definitely, do not believe them. Because Christ will come like a thief in the night.

I would beg to say that their “knowing” comes from their “personal relationship”. What a farce. It is blatant wordplay and dumming down of the masses for political control of the uneducated.
