I’m attending membership class for a non-denom church tonight. I’ve been attending for the last 6 months and just love it there. I am finally being fed spiritually again. (Catholic for 3 years)

Is there a question in this? Are you wanting us to convince you not to do it? Where are you going with this?

Why are you leaving the Church? I’m not trying to insult you, I just want to understand. Are you leaving because you didn’t feel fulfilled as a Catholic? What we feel doesn’t determine what’s true, no matter how much “better” one church may feel when compared to another. Are you seeking the consolations of God or the God of consolations? I will pray for you and your decision.

Fine. Free will, and all of that.

Just like we can choose to do good and evil, so can you.

Ironic that you say “fed spiritually” when the ultimate spiritual food is the Eucharist, now showing ONLY in your local Catholic Church. But hey, way to go, turn away from the prescence of Our Lord.

Praying for your re-coversion.

 Why would go to a protestant church and leave the CATHOLIC CHURCH? You are being guided in the wrong path. The people who leave the CATHOLIC CHURCH are selfish becuase they look for something that pleases them instead of the TRUTH.

I hope you return home becuase you are always welcome here. PEACE!!!

You’re trolling. Stop playing the enemy on a catholic site. Don’t try leading others off.

That’s great. I’m heading over to a friend’s house to watch the Simpsons 20th anniversary special on TV tonight.

That’s what this thread is for, right? For telling each other our Sunday night plans?

😛

Seriously, though. People join and leave the Catholic church every day. You have to do what you feel God is telling you to do. Let’s just hope it’s actually God you’re listening to and not someone or something else.

That makes me sad.
I learned several years ago, when I was not a practicing Catholic, that a friend had become a Catholic. I tried for years to find her but couldn’t. When I finally found her, she had become a Mormon. 😦

She never did learn what it meant to be a Catholic. I’m sorry that those who were responsible for teaching you the faith failed you.

I remember when I left the Catholic Church as a teenager, I said the same thing you just did.
"I’m not being fed."

If you send me your address, I will send you this book.

What’s this deal that folks who leave the Church talking about being “spiritually fed”?

I hear this from nearly every one. Is this protestant-talk like “open up YOUR bible,” and inserting the word “just” into prayers as in. "Jesus we just praise you and we just glorify your name Lord and just fill us Oh Lord with your glory oh Lord. . . just. . . just . . . just. . . " 🤷

I didn’t know “memership class” was required for non-denoms. Enjoy!

While you’re in the class, ask them where they stand on moral issues such as:
  • abortion
  • in vitro fertilization
  • Destructive embryonic (usually stem cell) research
  • Contraception
  • elective sterilization
  • euthanasia
  • homosexual acts and homosexual “marriage”
  • cloning
  • organ donation and blood transfusion
I’d like to hear back about this.

Best wishes.

…do you know what you are giving up?

Really now, what with the Eucharist being the actual body and actual blood of Christ. You’re going to give up the body, blood, soul and divinity of the Eucharist for…what now?

Unless of course you don’t really believe these things.

I don’t think the Church fails a person, they are the ones failing to actually do the research and put some effort into understanding the faith. I also find people who leave are looking for an emotional high and feel that because people come running over to the new person and give them personal attention that this is what they are looking for.

I use to sometimes attend a fundamentalist church with my friend when I was young. It was fun compared to the Episcopal church. The center of attention during “worship” was the preacher. Even as a very young person I found no substance in their type of worship service, not to be uncharitable, for me it was just listening for an hour of preaching and singing some hymns. The teenagers made jokes, and not too nice ones, about the hymns.

There was much gossip in the church. I was attacked by some of the older guys because I wore a crucifix. But all in all it fulfilled the emotional need for a fun time, not so boring as liturgical worship.

When a poster says they are leaving the Church and has only been Catholic for 3 years I expect they will be unhappy again and leave the new church for another in a few years.

All is not what it appears to be in evangelical and fundamentlist churches, people are people with the same sinful natures as in any church. I feel that Catholics cannot convince another of Truth when they have already made up their minds. They must just leave and find out for themselves the truth. Although the Catholics who are so uneducated in their faith will probably turn into very anti Catholics, as unless their choice is another liturgical church there will probably be sermons about how wrong the Church is and just reinforce their views for leaving.

Also if I were to leave the Catholic Church or any other I would not see the need to post my decision on a forum from the church I was leaving. What would be the point?

Yours in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary

Bernadette

these are some of the attitudes people hear from Catholics, which tend to drive them away from the Catholic Church.

both sides (Catholics and Protestants) have a tendancy to get nasty and competative, but in the end it doesn’t help anyone.

In the Catholic Church you are fed by Christ Himself, with His own Body, Bood, Soul and Divinity, yet there is something better in this church of yours? I would love to here what earthly consideration of fellowship, preaching, or bible studies can equate to this.

May I suggest you drop this class and go back to your RCIA and ask them to explain what they failed to teach you before. It is not your fault if your instructors did not teach you properly what you have received in the Catholic Church, but you owe it to yourself to get the whole truth before you throw away the most valuable gift one can possess on earth.

Hello JudiTherese,

So I see that you have been struggling with your faith journey … I have worked with RCIA for nearly 15 years … I have journeyed with hundreds on their path seeking faith, truth and God’s love …

Have you also been attending Mass the past 6 months? You say you have been ‘catholic’ for about 3 years … so typically that might represent a year +/- of intense formation [RCIA] led by others with you - fallowed by your embracing your faith and becoming an ‘adult’ - shall we say - in the faith being more or less leading your own ‘spirituality’ … which it looks like you followed for a mere 18 months or so … 🤷

So how does one who A] had an accountability partner, B] led a womans bible study for 30+ parishioners, and C] who was responsible for heading up a new “Welcoming” ministry to enhance your parish - [all gleaned from your posts] … Move from professing and holding as Truth the Teachings of Christ’s Church, receiveing the fullness of Christ [Body, Blood and Soul] in the Eucharist - involved in the life of the parish to attending a Protestant Church [with a merely symbolic communion] in 18 months in order to feel ‘fed spiritually’?

Thus I suspect that 1] something happend [and event, a disppointment, ?] that shook you faith or 2] You became ‘catholic’ for a reason [or reasons] other then what you professed when you were brought into the Church [even if you had convinced yourself at the time that you did in fact believe - head Vs heart and soul]…

When you say you ‘feel’ something - that is an emotional response - that can be real or transitory …

For example: a man says to the priest that married him and his eife the year before. I think we are going to get a divorce. It is just not working out and I don;t love er any more. The priest says then lover her. Th man syas no you don’t understand me, I said I don’t love her any more … the priest says then “love” her …

Too many people thenk that “Love” is a feeling and that when the feeling goes away … so does the love … but love is an ‘action’ … it is something we “DO” … We love, even when the person we love is not lovable [think the difference between the innocent new born and the teenager ;)] andloving anything or anyone through time has its ups and downs, highs and lows.

Being fed spiritually is something you do, like preparing that next meal … it is not something that happens to you - purely something to experience.

Good Luck on your journey, and pray for guidance, perserverance and faith. You will need it - evn in this new church because at some time, you will need to reach deep and find the strength to “love” and to “eat” if you want to feel fed …

Pax Christe

And remember, we [your fellow pilgrams] are waiting your return to the family meal, to join Jesus and hear the family stories and to receive the gift of Life, the Bread that Truly satisfies the heart and soul - the Bread of Life . 🙂

When you are ready - we wil be here, waiting, waiting with open arms and the angels and saints rejoicing in heaven 😉

It means they’re not getting what they need/want. It may start in RCIA when one isn’t really being taught anything and being taught things contrary to the Catholic faith. Not being Catholic and being told this is where one goes to learn about Catholicism, one doesn’t know any better. I wasn’t told about needing to go to Mass weekly or on Holy Days of Obligation (though, I did miss two or three weeks and didn’t read any of the hand outs they provided). What was presented was a very weak as water Protestant Sunday School for children form of Christianity (not that Protestantism was actually taught, BUT, it was a very basic Christianity.)

I don’t ever recall being taught the Rosary (and CERTAINLY not in RCIA); what I know about it, I’ve read, and, it’s not clear when you read it.

When you are initiated/Confirmed into the Catholic Church, you are on zeal for the faith and want to know EVERYTHING great about it that you’ve seen and heard. One is given literature, which has a lot to be desired. One doesn’t have a priest as needed, and, that is in part due to there being a lack of priests and due in part to the priests delegating their duties to others and guilds and groups in the church. One sees female altar servers, lay people on the altar to read the readings, churches looking like libraries, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and doesn’t see anything wrong with this.

No, one doesn’t learn about Catholicism in a few years, it does take a lifetime, BUT, the people who are there to educate…aren’t. Generally. There are few places where those who are instructors instruct properly the Catholic faith.

Basically, what it means, is that one is not getting Catholicism.
