Darth Sidious tells Anakin that Darth Plagueis the Wise, his old master, figured out how to induce the midi-clorians to create life. Was Anakin that “life,” created at the instigation of a Sith lord?

Anakin’s special power with The Force has, for the rest of the series, been to forsee things up to 10 seconds before they happen. That explains his incredible skill as a podracer and pilot. Suddenly, when back at the senate and physically close to Darth Sidious, he starts having prophetic dreams about Padme dying. Sidious knows about the dreams before Anakin tells him. Could that be because Sidious was actually the source of the dreams?

How hot is a river of lava? 500 degrees? 1,100 degrees? Then how can Obi-Wan and Anakin have their light-saber battle only six inches above it, standing on pieces of drifting metal? And with their clothes intact and unscorched, wearing no special protective gear?

For that matter, how is it that Mustafar, being a wholly volcanic moon with active lava flow all over the surface, has a breathable atmosphere? One that doesn’t instantly poison or scorch lungs?

Did you catch the cameo with George Lucas and his daughter, Katie? Hint: they have blue-grey faces, and George is wearing a brown uniform. :irish1:

I thought about the implications of what Sidious told Anakin. My take on it is that he was using his knowledge of Anakin’s origins and fears to make him think that it would be possible to save Padme’s life, especially since he was “special” and “chosen.”

As far as the whole volcano thing goes, I had a hard time watching it without thinking the very same things. I guess it’s one of those times that you just have to suspend credibility and go along with the pretense.

Still, the last half hour of the movie was by far the best of all the new trilogy. In spite of my science-minded skepticism, I still felt horrified by the way Anakin suffered and the tragedy of the whole thing.

Yes - when Darth Sidious gave that story about the midi-clorians, I thought that referred to the conception of Anakin.
But the guy IS evil…so he could have been twisting the truth as well.
He also convinced Anakin to turn to the dark side of the force to save Padme…but he obviously was lying about that too.

As for the fight over the lava…have you no faith in the FORCE? 😃

In the beginning of the movie when the ship started to break up they made it appear as if it were FALLING, and that people were FALLING.
And I thought to myself…where are they falling to? They’re in space aren’t they?

The reentry to that planet’s atmosphere with half the ship hanging open? No way.

In enjoying the movie I forgot about that one. Never wondered about it until I saw your post. 😃

They were very much within the gravitational well of Coruscant. When you see outside the windows and the docking bay you can see well-pronounced city-scape of the planet.

As for those who complain about the lava planet, at least when it comes to the proximity to the lava and the scorching, there was obvious shielding around the platform and droid they were standing on; the platform was specifically designed for people to stand on and harvest the minerals from the lava as is seen when we’re first introduced to the planet. Also, Obi-Wan’s outfit IS scorched when we see it on Padme’s ship and the Tantive IV, there is one prominant burnmark just above his right breast. It’s not burned to cinders, but there was definately some burn damage.

When watching Science Fiction, it’s best just to not put the rules of ‘our world’ into that world. Just let it go, fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride!

I have this suspicion that the use of the dark side of the force to prolong life is not quite what Anakin was lead to believe… Sidious pitches it as a way to keep Padme from dying, or to preserve the ones he loves. But given that it would arise from tinkering with evil, it would be more like extending death than life. I wonder if Sidious is using this power (along with robotic parts and such) to keep Vader alive. Does using this power keep someone alive, at the expense of their humanity, or something like this? Did the people that Darth Plagueis the wise keep alive actually want that? If you’re using the forces of darkness to extend life because you are afraid to face natural death, I would imagine it would lead to a pretty twisted sort of existence. Hmm…

What do you mean?
It came as a great shock to everyone, including Mom, that she had twins. That’s something you can detect with an ultrasound.

Also, who builds his base on a volcano planet?

You build it on a volcanic planet if you don’t want to be found. They didn’t want the Jedi to find them, until The Emperor didn’t need them anymore.

Since Padme was scared of who was finding out who the father was, she probably didn’t have the full workup of prenatal care she normally would.

The volcanic planet wasn’t a military base, it was a mining facility that they were hiding at.

And Padme didn’t have to go get an ultrasound. I know plenty of people that get the bare minimum of such information even today. Some people like to be suprised.

I haven’t seen the movie yet (I’m ducking in case someone here wants to smack me 🙂 ) but today I heard a friend say they saw a t-shirt that said something I thought was funny:

“Sith Happen”

I had to share…

HUH? She knows that Anakin is the father. What do you mean by this?

She didn’t want anyone else to know who the father was since they married in secret. Jedis aren’t supposed to marry.

Well, I can’t speak to the breathable atmosphere part, but I can say a couple of things about the temp. 500 degrees, 1100 degrees, neither would require special adaptive clothing, as long as you don’t touch the lava (or anything heated by the lava). When working with molten glass, I used to stand for hours working with hot glass that came from the furnace heated at 2200 degrees. And this was on a warm summer day. I wore short sleeves, although weenie that I was, I wore a cut-off athletic sock, soaked in water on my pulling arm (the arm that went closest to the furnace when pulling a fresh gather of glass.)

I’d guess the heat of a volcano would have to be quite a bit higher than 2200 degrees (although molten glass is melted sand).

CARose

(and, as they’ve been telling ya, it’s a movie, although a good movie if you ask me).

I strap in for the ride and turn off the reality switch…it was great fun, so Darth Vader survived being crisped and fried in the lava:hmmm: where the One Ring got melted down:ehh: …so what, it was like who in their right minds would even be there never mind playing hop scotch in the lava river…

only disappointment was that Jar-Jar did not DIE:banghead:
