When I was in the process of conversion, one thing which propelled me towards the Catholic Church was that the Church in my village had a little chapel, always open, and it had a square golden box atop a small altar, and the box had a little curtain in front of it, which could be raised and lowered… when the curtain was raised, one could see the Sacred Eucharist, exposed through a little glass window in the front of the golden box.

It was all mysterious to me, biut all I,know is that when I began visiting the little chapel, I could almost tangibly feel a Presence there, which was lovely. And there was a tree outside the window, upon entry and exit, which bloomed to the maximum for as long a season as could be imagined. It was like a little paradise.

I am now a Catholic and the Church I attend wants to start hours of adoration. THey have a small chapel. The Priest says that he does not want Jesus left alone and he has put a sign up sheet, and for the most part the hours have been filling up.

The Priest Reverently brings the Sacred Host from the Tabernacle and places it gently in the monstrance for adoration by the faithful, and after the allotted time has passed, the priest blesses the people with the monstrance and the Sacred Host is replaced in the Tabernacle.

MY QUESTIONS. Was the Church correct where I first learned to adore our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament?
Was it correct in having the Sacred species always in the beautiful golden box with a curtain?

Jesus was not always kept company there, but whoever wanted to go,and visit Him, any hour of the day or night, they could reverently kneel and raise the curtain and adore.

Is this correct?

Many thanks
Alice

It sounds to me that the Chapel where you first adored the Good Shepherd is correct. It is a great blessing to have the Good Shepherd with us at all times.

It is usually up to the Bishop to determine proper procedure when no one is in the Chapel. The fact that there was a curtain which could be lowered would be correct. Our monstrance remains on the altar with a complete covering when no one is in the Chapel. The only difference is the kind of covering.

May the Good Shepherd bring many people to Eucharistic Adoration.

Thank you. Grannymh …thank you so much… I am going to go to my new Church and show the Priest this thread and ask him if he would consider doing this.

May the Good Shepherd Bless you as well
Alice

Sounds like a different kind of tabernacle is all.

He would not allow the blessed sacrament to exposed in a Monstrance with no one there.
But the other thing was likely a tabernacle, although small, with a glass front.

I think nowadays there is often a little bit of concern about having the Host accessible when people are not present. I know you said it was behind glass as well as a curtain, but someone with bad intentions or mental disorder could break the glass when they saw what was there.

Better to have Jesus safely locked up in a tabernacle when it’s not regular hours.

LOL! I’m not laughing at you Tis Bearself, this statement just made me laugh. 🙂 I wonder what Jesus would have thought about working regular hours and being locked away for safekeeping on off-hours. Just the picture made me chuckle, and maybe Jesus laughed too.

I’m going to my first Eucharist Adoration this Friday. I didn’t sign up and hope I can just show up and Jesus will be there. If not, I guess I go to the chapel outside.

Jesus laughs a lot. I am sure about that.

If you sneak into Eucharistic Adoration so no one notices, Jesus will be laughing.

We have a woman who comes in and tips out all the holy water.
