Hurray for The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops!
The readings for Mass in Canada have been using the NRSV Bible translation since the early nineties, against the wishes of the Holy See. That translation went overboard with the gender-inclusive language, sometimes distorting the meaning from the original Greek/Hebrew.
From what I can gather from the bulletin, the Bishops have come up with an altered NRSV to read at Mass. Where the original text was meant to be gender specific, this has been better respected in this altered translation.
It sounds like the Bishops have been working with Rome for a number of years on this. The good news is that the Holy See has recently given its approval. It’s very, very encouraging that the Canadian Bishops are cooperating to this extent with the Holy See.
