Enjoy your weapons because if things go the way they are predicted, you’ll have to turn them in when the laws change regarding ownership rules.
“…go they way they are predicted…”? By whom? Gun-control laws have been relaxing recently, in case you haven’t noticed. Most states now allow some form of concealed-carry–which has not, contrary to the predictions of gun-control advocates, caused a tidal wave of shootings anywhere the laws have been enacted. Several states are considering, or have passed, open-carry laws…which means you’ll be able to actually *see *the evil things! (The horror!)
Out-of-control gun violence, especially with handguns, has instead been in places where firearms are the
most restricted, such as Chicago or DC. Lawmakers are reluctant to even introduce new gun-control legislation because the first casualty of it is often the legislators who vote for it.
In other words, they won’t be prying anything out of my cold, dead hands for a while. (Oh, wait, I better mention that that’s a humorous reference, since you seem unable to detect it otherwise.)
I suppose next you’re going to tell me that the only purpose of a handgun is to kill human beings…which reflects only how much you
don’t know about firearm sports. I’m a fairly typical shooter, I suppose–I’ve fired thousands of rounds of ammunition, never once at a human being. Anything wrong with that?
And for the record, years ago I had someone break into my apartment while I was home; where I live, by law I could have shot him full of holes, but I just ran him off. He never even knew I had a gun; I wasn’t brandishing it like in some movie poster. I don’t *want *to hurt anybody–but by God, if someone tries to hurt me or my family, he’d better be prepared to die. I’m not that forgiving.
So what is it that you’re really opposed to? The thought that something might be misused? That can happen anytime, with anything. Or is it the thought that individuals shouldn’t have the self-sufficiency to defend themselves–that only “authorities” are equipped to save us from ourselves? (“When seconds count, the police are only minutes away,” as they say.)
Look, if you think guns are bad, don’t buy any; I firmly believe people have the right not to bear arms as much as to bear them. Better yet, if you think owning guns is wrong, be brave enough to put up a sign on your lawn declaring your house to be a “weapon-free zone”. Get your neighbors to do the same. Let me know how that works for you.
