Complaints listed in the letter include ongoing resentment toward Egan for his decision to leave New York two days after 9/11 and concern that he has an “unnatural fear of the media” - unlike his popular predecessor, the late John Cardinal O’Connor. “Not only priests, but a lot of other Catholics in the archdiocese miss the sense of a public presence of Catholic leadership such as you had very energetically in the case of Cardinal O’Connor,” said the Rev. Richard John Neuhaus, who edits a religious journal called First Things. But, he added, “It’s unfair to compare anyone to the rather remarkable gifts and energy of Cardinal O’Connor.”

I have yet to hear Cardinal Egan condemn any pro-choice politician. There are a lot of them in NY. Cardinal O’Connor used to do it all the time. I can not say too much because the thread might get closed.

Well I now know enough about him to disaprove of him.
 
It’s sad. We need an O’Conner, and all we have is an Egan.
