RI Catholic School Bans Transgender Students

WOONSOCKET, RI—Officials at Mount St. Charles aren’t commenting about a recent policy declaration in the student handbook that bans transgender students from the school.

The policy, according to the parent student handbook, states on page 7 that “Mount Saint Charles Academy is unable to make accommodations for transgender students.”

The policy also states that the school doesn’t accept transgender students nor can the school continue to enroll students who identify as transgender.

Local Lutheran schools have a policy of not accepting students with special needs as the accommodations are cost prohibited. I believe the needs of transgender students would not adequately be met in a small private school setting. If the government wishes them to be educated, they should have those accommodations in a public school. I do not believe that private schools have the obligation to educate the masses but those select few who qualify under each school’s enrollment requirements. It’s not discrimination, it’s common sense and economics.

The teenage years are confusing enough for everybody. There is no right to inject one’s personal confusion into the mix.
