WASHINGTON (AP) – Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice finds Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama appealing and says it won’t be much longer before race isn’t a barrier to becoming president.

Obama is a top-tier contender among Democrats and his wide support early in the 2008 race “just shows that we’ve come a very long way,” Rice said Sunday. She and the Illinois senator are black.

True. Who’d a thunk it 30 years ago?
Then last evening, Forrest Whittiker and Jennifer Hudson both won well deserved major acting Oscars.
It’s about time we see these represenative changes.

I thought the change in the Oscars already happened…

…or did you think Halle Berry’s and Denzel Washington’s weren’t well deserved? 😉

Once again she shows how classy she is. No backstabing or sly remarks about how the African community has not embraced her even though she holds a very high and powerful office…

Heavy sigh.
I was only remarking on how great it is that people of other races are being acknowledged more and more for their contributions and that the academy doesn’t just sit back and rest on it’s “laurel” that they’ve already honored them.

A little off the point but the Oscars only reflect attitudes and beliefs of Oscar voters, not America in general.

Why does everyone leave Jamie Foxx out? He is a black man who won a lead actor Oscar…
I didn’t leave him out…he’s on the list I linked, along with a lot of other Oscar winners. Berry and Washington’s wins were considered significant because prior to that, black actors had only won in the Supporting roles. Foxx’s win was two years later for his fantastic work in Ray.

Heavy Sigh. :rotfl: I was only commenting that the wins after Berry and Washington are not “representative changes” as catsrus dramatically stated. It is normal…the way it should be. No one should even be saying “wow a black person won.” Rather, they should say, “Forrest Whitaker did a fabulous job playing Idi Amin (he really did) and is a great actor.”

It reminds me of my “I’m not a racist” step-mom who would always refer to someone as a “good black singer” or “good black actor” rather than just a “good singer” or a “good actor.” Their skin color really is not a component of their abilities as far as I know.

Sorry i wasn’t directing my comment at you. IT’s just that a lot of people have been commenting on how it’s such a big deal that with Whittiker won an oscar but that people leave out the fact that Foxx won one too. It’sa great sign that hollywood is finally given good lead roles to black actors. It is a testament to the fact that blacks are controlling scripts, directing, acting and all the other avenues of the movies. They are getting to do so because they pushed and made hollywood see them as people and not just the color of their skin.Hopeful we will get to a point were race doesn’t really matter.

Amen,
Then all we have to concern ourselves with are fools. I’ll leave to the readers to decide the choices.

We are in complete agreement. 👍
