This is the full speech by Richard Dawkins at the “Protest The Pope” rally, 18th September 2010.

I guess Mr Dawkins never ceases to amaze me… ( Palm to forehead) :confused:

Just wanted to share this, Thought it was … “Interesting”. 🤷

The title of his speech was “Ratzinger is an enemy of humanity.”

His website has a full transcript of the speech he mean to give, but cut short for reasons of time and crowd.

After skimming it and seeing the usual hateful rhetoric, I think I won’t post a link.
 
First he blames Christians, specially Catholics of everything under the sun.
Then he rallies people saying the Pope is against the queen as the head of the church or England.

There was only hate all over that speech, poor guy.
 
I found it surprising how he linked guilt and original sin, and objects so strongly to the doctrine of original sin.

How do atheists deal with the problems of human nature like greed, selfishness, etc., if not by recommending that we regret such behaviours and seek to change them? How is that so different? I’m sure athiests say things that make badly-behaving children feel guilty just as much as catholics do.

The guilt for our sins is only half the story, we also have the joys of grace, redemption, and sanctification.
 
This fellow could use a lot of prayer from our Church. He’ll certainly be included in my prayer list now. I would hope the Pope prays for him. I’ve heard of Dawkins, but wasn’t sure how popular he is. Does he have a cult following, or is he proposing a real and dangerous threat to mankind? You know what’s frightening, until the Lord took me: mind body and soul, I probably could have been swayed to some of this nonsense. I don’t think I ever got that depraved, but I certainly had the potential, because until my rescue, I was a relatively easy target. Probably not for out and out atheism, because I’ve always acknowledged deity, and something greater than myself, but he could have swayed me father into the miasma of “in the moment” secular humanism to which I was leaning.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me… (this has become my anthem, now). I don’t know why we aren’t just all called at once, or why until we are called, some of us are allowed to inflict a lot of damage on our brothers and sisters, and ourselves. I only know, that once the bittersweet call of Christ is felt in our hearts, there’s no turning back, and I also recognize that the intangibles of conversion are impossible to explain to someone to whom it has not occurred. So the saddest paradox of man. The one thing we all need, and that our souls are thirsty, and cry out for, can only be understood fully by those whose thirst is quenched, but many of us, don’t even realize we’re thirsty. Divine intervention. Amazing grace. May we always be open, and may it find us all.

Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Bring all souls to heaven. Especially those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.

Same hateful, spiteful rhetoric couched in terms of “free-thinking.”:rolleyes:

He would be better off visiting and spending some time with his Atheist colleague Christopher Hitchens, who is dying of Cancer. Show some love for the man, unlike the love he cannot bring himself to apply to the Pope and the Church.

I really hate when they call themselves free-thinkers, because in reality they only want society to be free to think as they do! It is their actual, stated mission to make sure no one is allowed to think like Christ!

It’s funny how Dawkins wants schools to let children decide what is right and wrong, and then he says the Pope should be arrested for “crimes against humanity”🤷. One he just contradicted himself by claiming moral superiority, and two, atheist ideologies are responsible for death tolls that dwarf that of the Church; that is to say if the Church killed anyone at all, which I’m starting to doubt more and more.
 
Did he say the Pope is the enemy of education?

Tell me, how many schools,colleges,university’s does the church fund?

I’m pretty sure the church welcomes science and we ourselves have progressed science throughout the ages.
 
What really got me was the people cheering in the video… Like really?

The comments were worse under the video.

Well, yes. Adherents of every religion and non-religion (if that is a proper term) want people to think like they do. Fortunately we live in a society where people are free to think as they wish and to speak about it. I hope all of us are free-thinkers even if we try to convince others we are right on whatever points are discussed. I read rather widely and while I don’t agree with Hitchens, I have never read anything he has written that he wants to make sure no one is allowed to think like Christ, or any other way. I don’t know how that would work since, as the old German song states "Die Gedanken sind frei (Thoughts are free.)

You’d be all the more perplexed at the sight of Dawkins at a carol service in Church and the admission that he celebrates Christmas. He justifies his participation to being “culturally Christian”.

The only love Dawkins has is for himself.
He`s empty, hollow; so all of his (self-) love goes inwards in a futile attempt to fill that huge empty space of his own making.

The first four lines of TS Eliot`s poem “THe Hollow Men” just came to mind:
We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw.

and later on:
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death`s other Kingdom
Remember us - if at all - not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

Not in the poet`s original context; but those lines seem to fit Dawkins et al.

The lines about quiet and meaningless dried voices could be replaced with something signifying:
The braying of the asses, and
The hissing of the asps.

If our enemies have to resort to the blatant lies Dawkins spews out in that video…it reveals the identity of the fallen spirit who “inspired” Dawkins to utter them.

Wonder whether he and Hitchens and the rest would have been leading lights during the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution, if they`d lived 200 years earlier.

Hi Steve,

Even people who have been Catholics from a young age get curious about the other ideas that are out there. Like, why is Richard Dawkins so motivated to be against God and the Catholic Church? He has a following but I don’t know how big it is. He’s written books and appeared on TV so he is a bit of a point man for the cause.

You mentioned your own struggles and thoughts about others. Here’s Father Corapi’s conversion story. I hope you find it inspiring.
