About 20,000 atheists gathered within shouting distance of the Washington Monument on Saturday for a Reason Rally hell-bent on damning religion and mocking beliefs.

I’m more sad for Dawkins than angry.

I found this also. It seems to have a more complete quote.
Exemplifying how he would approach religious persons, Dawkins said, “Do you really believe, for example if they’re Catholic, that when a priest blesses a wafer, it turns into the body of Christ?”
“Mock them, ridicule them in public,” he urged. “Don’t fall for the convention that we’re all too polite to talk about religion.”

Public ridicule and mocking? That’s how reason and intelligence respond to someone’s beliefs?

reminds me of the t shirt that says on the front “God is dead” Nietzsche and then on the back “Nietzsche is dead” God.
Father, forgive them, they know not what they do. It takes an awful lot of emotion and energy to deny God. I pity these people and pray for their souls and conversion. One can’t see the wind put you sure do know when it is blowing.

Where was the ‘reason’ in this rally? Dawkins is hate mongering. Tim Minchin, ‘comedian’ went on a stage for over 20 minutes making derogatory comments about the Pope, and swore over 75 times, even though there were children around.

Ahem.

Q: Are we going to trash religion?
A: No. This will be a positive experience.
Watch this interview of atheists at the Reason rally and see if it fits with what the organizers said on their website:
We decided to ask numerous leaders in the atheist movement and Reason Rally attendees four key questions:
Code:
* What brings you to Reason Rally?
* If you could deliver any message to Christians in America, what would it be?
* If you could condense Christianity into one or two words, what would they be?
* How has President Barack Obama handled the secular community in America?

Note how nearly all of them praise Barack Obama.

If there is no Santa Claus, then why try to convince others that he doesn’t exist. If there is no Easter Rabbit, then why try to convince others that it doesn’t exist. If there is no tooth fairy, why try to convince others that she doesn’t exist. Same with leprechauns and the monsters that live under kids’ beds. And, if there is no God, why bother trying to convince others not to pay attention to that superstition? 🤷

As to your last, noted, and who cares?

I agree.

I care, when a president has a higher approval rating among non believers than he does among regular Church-goers, that matters,

Mitt Romney probably has a higher approval rating than Obama among members of the Ku Klux Klan - should that mean anything to us?

Good response! 👍

I remember when he said he would run the country (paraphrasing here, but all three nouns in the same sentence) by reason and science, not by ideology. At the time it cause me to wonder about the dichotomy. It was such an odd statement, but since then I learned more about atheism’s mantra.😦

**Are you suggesting that Obama, who cites his Christian values as the motivation behind his public policies is an atheist? **

“For me, as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’s teaching that ‘for unto whom much is given, much shall be required,’ ” Obama said. …

“I know that far too many neighbors in our country have been hurt and treated unfairly over the last few years, and I believe in God’s command to ‘love thy neighbor as thyself,’” Obama said.

**But Paul Ryan, who admits that Ayn Rand is his hero, is a good Catholic boy? **

“The reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand,” Ryan said at a D.C. gathering four years ago honoring the author of “Atlas Shrugged” and “The Fountainhead.” …
tnr.com/blog/jonathan-chait/80552/paul-ryan-and-ayn-rand

Across the street from the Faith & Freedom Conference Friday afternoon, a group of religious leaders continued the attack on what they now consistently refer to as “The Ayn Rand Budget.” Father Cletus Kiley, a Catholic priest, declared the Ryan budget “does not pass our test” of Catholic teachings, and suggested that supporters of the budget “drop Ayn Rand’s books and pick up their sacred texts.” swampland.time.com/2011/06/03/paul-ryans-ayn-rand-problem/#ixzz1qG1OHTe4

If folks want to throw stones at Obama, they will first have to justify why they think it is OK that the philosophy of a self-serving atheist like Ayn Rand is providing the blueprint for the Ryan budget that has been embraced by every Republican lawmaker & presidential candidate.

Or you could just drop this line of hypocrisy 🤷

Atheist simply means “anti-Christian” 99% of the time.

When atheists bash jews let me know.

I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Do Ku Klux Klan prefer Obama who supports unrestricted access to abortion and stands by while Black women have the highest abortion rate next to Hispanic women, or do the Ku Klux Klan prefer Mitt Romney who wants Roe vs wade to be reversed? Right back to 1882 the Ku Klux Klan’s targets were Republicans, black and white. The Klan was established by Democrats and played a prominant role in the Democrat party.

Yep, Christian values are at the heart of his politics. He is clearly lying, because he completely contradicts himself. How can you not sere this?

And what is that about Ayn Rand? She is about as anti-religious as you can get? What was the point of saying that?

My guess it that most Klan members would not vote for Obama!

As for the Dixiecrats, they abandoned the Democratic party a long time ago.

During the 1860 presidential election, the Democratic party was the party of wealthy conservatives and businessmen. The issue of slavery, however, split the party into Northern and Southern factions. Southern Democrats (i.e., Dixiecrats) were pro-slavery & pro-states rights and nominated Beckinridge for president in 1860. Northern Democrats were also pro-states rights, but were opposed to the spread of slavery and nominated Douglas in 1860.

The Republican party was the liberal party of the North that nominated Lincoln in 1860. Massachusetts was so Republican at the time, that southerners called our senators “Black Republicans” - “Black” because men like Charles Sumner had the audacity to advocate that the United States pass laws granting African-Americans human rights.

I believe the parties switched identities sometime in the mid 20th century, when Northern Democrats embraced the Civil Rights movement and the Dixiecrats completely abandoned the party. Now the Democratic party is the liberal party of the North and the Republican party is the conservative party of the South.

Times change, but not that much. If you look at what is happening in the 2012 primaries, you see the same North vs. South split in todays Republican party that characterized the Democratic party in 1860. Santorum is your Beckinridge & Romney is your Douglas. It will be very interesting to see how things turn out in the end.

So you agree that the Republican lawmakers are anti-religious disciples of the atheist Ayn Rand?

If that is the case, then we have no disagreement.
