Naming and identity​

The term boogaloo is a reference to the 1984 cult film Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo , an unpopular sequel film that was largely viewed to be a near-exact copy of the original movie.[2] Following the film release, adding “2: Electric Boogaloo” to a phrase became a joking reference to any unwanted or archetypical sequel.[10] The boogaloo movement adopted their name from the belief there will be a second civil war; that is, “Civil War 2: Electric Boogaloo”.[5][11]

Members of the boogaloo movement also use other similar-sounding derivations of the word, including boog , boojihadeen , big igloo , and big luau , and have created logos and other imagery incorporating igloo snow huts, and Hawaiian prints.[3][12][11] The names and the broader imagery are used by members of the boogaloo movement to avoid crackdowns and automated content flags imposed by social media sites to limit or ban boogaloo-related content.[13] Members sometimes identify themselves at protests by wearing Hawaiian shirts along with military fatigues.[3][4][11] They have also used other imagery popular among the far-right, such as the Pepe the Frog meme.[1][2]

Good job, now learn the difference between ends and means. The attack was the means, the end was the overthrow of the Trump administration.

For the undecided reader here, now is the time to note the incoherence and self-contradictory nature of the leftist narrative. We have been reassured for years that Trump was a racist supported by racists. Now actual racists are accused of trying to overthrow the government headed by Trump by attacking protests.

False. The article says it’s a heterodox group; some being white supremacist and racist; some anti-racist. Some libertarian, some anarchist. Some support Black Lives Matter. Some don’t. What they all share is a desire for societal chaos. They’re a long way from being Trump people.

Once you get into the realm of the far, far right, things get disturbing and weird. Turner Diaries, anti-Semitic etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if the extremists ditched Trump for anti-Semitic reasons. Heck I wouldn’t be surprised if they hated him for the fact he married a Catholic woman.

And some of these groups are just against the government, no matter who’s in charge. When you want to start a “second civil war,” anybody & anything is fair game.
 
It may be heterogeneous, but you’d be safe in assuming that “boogaloo” types are mostly a “right” phenomenon in the same way “antifa” are a “left” phenomenon. I.e both are fringes that are not really representative of what most people are thinking of when they say right or left in America.

Both are readily visible in their respective habitats. I’ve never seen an internet forum in the past five years (this one included) w/out some race baiting rightist trolls occaisionally popping up and referencing civil war 2 electric boogaloo, and I’ve never been to a decent size protest in the past 20 years without seeing face bandana wearing disheveled young adults dressed in black playing upside down bucket drums.

I have my doubts that either has suddenly acquired the cohesion, organizational skills, or even ability to communicate with regular people to be the driver behind a national wave of unrest.

It honestly does seem to be the unfortunate truth that most rioters are locals without any obvious ulterior political motives. That’s what data from arrests so far suggests.
