Yes I agree. Billy Graham did more for the cause of Christ than many preachers combined. He wasn’t my favorite because of his Catholic slant on salvation, but I respect his incredible ministry nonetheless. A great man of God.

Arminianism is a “Catholic slant”?

This is a good topic for another thread.

I dont believe the Catholic faith would support your position. But alot would have to be discussed about wht that all means.

The Baptist traditions appealled to him. It doesnt mean God was calling him to be separated from His Eucharist!!
If God had wanted Billy Graham to leave the Southern Baptist church and become a member of the Catholic Church, he would have. Rev Graham obeyed God and was used by Him where he was the most effective spreading His Message. In my opinion, he was the Fulton Sheen of Protestants.

Hi there James. Arminian views share a common theological thread that says Justification can be forfeited or reversed based on a lack of either faith or works.

And? That doesn’t make it a “Catholic slant”. Arminianism is it’s own slant.

Rather than gunk up this thread, I would suggest you create a new thread where you can expound upon this idea that Arminianism equates to Catholicism.

He wasn’t Catholic because that’s not what God called him to be. And perhaps, not as many people would’ve listened to him had he been Catholic.
🤨 so you’re saying, Jesus didn’t want Billy in His Church?
No, that is not what I’m saying. I’m saying that Jesus did not call Billy Graham to be a member of the Catholic Church. He called him to be a Protestant, more specifically, a Southern Baptist preacher.
Really!

We’re speaking of, and spreading the Gospel… right?

This is the Gospel. not a suggestion.

Jn 17: 20-26
. Jn17:20-26 RSVCE - “I do not pray for these only, but - Bible Gateway

All emphasis mine
20 “I do not pray for these only, (the apostles) but also for those who believe in me through their word,(His Church that He established on Peter and those in union with Peter) 21 that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and thou in me, that they may become perfectly one, so thatthe world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom thou hast given me, may be with me where I am, to behold my glory which thou hast given me in thy love for me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, the world has not known thee, but I have known thee; and these know that thou hast sent me. 26 I made known to them thy name, and I will make it known, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

The Baptist religion came from John Smyth http://www.christianitytoday.com/history/people/denominationalfounders/john-smyth.html NOT Jesus.

So you are saying Jesus went against His own prayer?

I will start a thread titled “Does God call people to be separate from Catholic Eucharist?”

Or do you prefer a different title?

let’s not make a passing thought, a main event. I wasn’t.
You asked. And Arminian theology do share similar ideas. It certainly is in the same direction.

We should all say a hail mary for him as his family/followers won’t be praying for him if he’s in purgatory.

And you can make a new thread expounding on your take on it. Let’s not do it here; capish?

steve-b, I believe I’ve made myself clear.

I did NOT say that Jesus started the Southern Baptist church. I said that Rev Graham was called by God to remain a Protestant preacher. He wasn’t called to convert and become Catholic. God did, however, give him the grace to understand our Catholic beliefs.

Whether you realize it or not, God uses people where they are. He uses Catholics in the Catholic Church. He uses Protestants in their own churches. God used Billy Graham where he was - a Southern Baptist in the Southern Baptist church. The man had a sincere love of God and spent the majority of his life spreading His Message to the lost. God used him to bring many of the lost to Him just as He used Fulton Sheen to reach the lost. Each in his own way spread God’s Message to the world.

Catholic or Protestant, as Christians, we are all called to share the Gospel with those we meet. Each of us does so in his or her own way using the gifts God gave us.

Billy Graham served the Lord well. And I am sure that Jesus said, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter now into the joy of your Master.”

His body is now being returned to NC for a private family funeral tomorrow. But his soul now resides with our Lord and Savior.

God love him.

Be my guest, rcwitness. I look forward to reading and participating in the new thread.

Just be clear: Rev. Billy Graham lie “in honor”

The designation is different for presidents, statesmen and war heroes, who lie “in state.”

Got it?

Good

If that were the summation I would prefer people to be Muslim.

Maybe we’ll have an opportunity on another thread, to discuss this
