One of our local coaches just died of brain cancer. It’s such a terrible disease.

R.I.P Sen. McCain. I voted for you for President. Wish you had won, sir.

I heard on the news that former presidents Bush and Obama were both invited to deliver eulogies and that McCain left specific instructions that Trump was not to be invited.
I’m sure Trump is fine with that, since he prefers “people who weren’t captured.”

I wonder if we’ll hear from John Kerry, supposedly also a friend of Mccain’s, and who reportedly considered MCCain as a running mate in 2004.

My husband and I supported him at the time. We even passed out campaign flyers as well.

My daughter was about 4. On Election Day, she came in to vote with me.

A few days later, I had a doctor appointment, and she came with me. She proudly announced to the nurse that “we” voted for John McCain.

May he Rest In Peace.

RIP Senator McCain. I only wished he had been stronger during the last year to be able to push for war in Syria. I know that was a priority of his and while he he and Trump had their differences he did cheer on his bombing of the country. Of course that wasn’t enough. McCain wanted American troops which were much needed to overthrow the Syrian government.

It will be interesting to see. Of course McCain passed on, possibly unwittingly, the Steele dossier, known by another term due to its salacious content, so I doubt Trump would have many kind words to say about him.

Well, just as an FYI - POTUS has not given the customary Presidential Proclamation to half-staff the American Flag.

He finally broke his silence 6 hours ago and deigned to “tweet” sympathy to the family!

Senator McCain was a gem. A man who put principles before politics. And a Republican with integrity. Two things that we sorely need right now.

The White House flag was at half-staff for a while, but apparently that’s already over. 😦

The idea of having American troops effectively on the other side of the trenches from Russian troops doesn’t exactly fill my heart with glee. It was precisely that fear that restrained American presidents right back to Truman from interventions that had a high possibility of American and Russian troops getting into a shooting war. Having two effectively belligerent superpowers lined up against each other at close proximity has been responsible for just about every general war in the Modern Age.

As much as my heart goes out to the civilian population of Syria, this was no more worth a general war than Ukraine a few years ago or Czechoslovakia in 1968.

Pretty sure that was Joe Lieberman in 2008, not John Kerry.

Flying the flag at half staff should have been an easy peasy decision.

It just looks terrible, when it doesn’t need to.

Hah! I would not care except so far as it would impact my family. So I respect the wished of the senator’s family. I am speechless regarding our president’s response.
