I think I’ll forgo a prayer for the mass murdering monster.

Surely a mass-murdering monster is in even greater need of our prayers than somebody who isn’t a mass-murdering monster.

I’ve read 2 articles of his “legacy” this morning, I will try to find out more on him.

I mean, I know his reputation, I know I read a list of the worst dictators in Africa in recent times and he was high up there.

(As an aside, no, I don’t forget colonialism and the likes of King Leopold, I am just not meaning to stray from the subject)

Top 16 Famous African Dictators Designated as the Worst in their Time <---- Here is that list, fwiw.

That’s not the only list I have read like this. This list does not include the man who succeeded Patrick Lumumba in DR Congo or Zaire, that is a dark chapter in history as well. The list is not an end all but an opening for further study.

And in a strange twist of fate, Zimbabwe without Mugabe is in even worse shape than Zimbabwe with Mugabe, if that’s possible.

I read a few articles this morning, apparently farming is making a comeback there but one would have to see exactly when this transpired. He was still in office 2-3 years ago.

1 John 5:16
If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray.

In my opinion Guiness is within his rights not to pray for this specific intention … but Londoner certainly may.

While I haven’t invoked this man’s name in my prayers directly, I have said the between decades rosary prayer many times …

“Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, especially those most in need of thy mercy.”

I HAVE prayed for my own deceased family, friends and acquaintances … and for living people I know … FIRST. At mass we often lift up world leaders, and the plight of distressed people.

For a mass murdering monster … it doesn’t look good. Even a private deathbed repentance … may not be enough of a ninth inning rally to save such a soul. Perhaps the perp must gain the forgiveness of all of his/her victims to balance justice.

Of course the cross of Jesus is greater than any sin(s) … and the Lord will have mercy on whom He will …

… but Jesus warns us some will not be saved. He warns too often, too firmly, and too personally for us not to pay attention … or be flip in our considering his mercy as an entitlement.

It’s not always virtuous to decry the bad guys of this world … without gulping a bit at our own sins (which in the end are more relevant to OUR salvation).

NOR is the virtue signaling of springing to the spiritual defense of “Catholics” who seem to have lived their lives in opposition to some critical demands of Christ … once they have died … a proof of one’s charity.

The names and examples of such Catholics are invoked long after their deaths to justify the popular sins they seemed to endorse. "So-and-so was a GOOD CATHOLIC and he/she said … “(insert heresy or sin advocacy here)”.

At the time such people die … it might be JUST the moment to wonder where they went (for perhaps out of fear some may give UP the sin(s) the recently departed is being judged on/for).

Some think this is uncharitable. It CAN be. But if proper words at the proper time in the proper spirit cause a soul to turn more fervently towards the Lord … well … by their fruits you shall know them.

Those of you who are praying for the repose of the soul of Robert Mugabe right now … may be better people than me. Or guided by the Holy Spirit … for prayer … even ineffectual prayer … is never wasted. Like the blessing of the apostles, it may return to you if it is not effective at the point of its target.

I know precious little about Mr. Mugabe so on his particular CASE I’ll remain silent for now (at long last). And reflect.

Blessings upon you GUINESS and Londoner though. 😇

Isn’t the revolution always betrayed as a matter of fact?

Every time I hear of a revolution, I think of The Who’s Won’t Get Fooled Again. As good a description of what happens during and after a revolution as I’ve ever seen.

Post #1 is correct, if I search for articles or photos of “Mugabe Catholic”, a lot comes up. Maybe others would be interesting in looking into that.

The US revolution was also lead by thirteen often cantankerous colonies, and it was born first out of politics. That first Continental Congress could barely agree on a statement of grievances, let alone a solution. Heck, even the first constitution was more a treaty than an actual governing document. I think a revolution lead by Thomas Jefferson as the primary figure would have likely ended far worse. It also helped that General Washington was the rarest of breeds, an actual Cincinnatus in the flesh. If he’d been like typical revolutionary leaders, a Napoleon or a Trotsky, he would have marched into Philadelphia and seized power, and he would have got it, due to the acclaim and general admiration among his countrymen.
