Yes, of course there is proof. If the sun were sizzling hot nacho cheese we would periodically see the shadows caused when aliens dipped giant tortilla chips into it. Because we have observed no such shadows
Ever heard of an eclipse?😉

Peace

Hes damaging the image of the Church in the minds of a lot of Non-Catholics, though. How could he honestly hold that belief? Wouldnt R. Dawkins and C. Hitchens and their disciples love this!
The sun and earth seem to revolve around each other, although the earth moves faster. Galileo was wrong to say that the sun is stationary, but nobody ridicules him for that belief, which is has not gotten much attention by people who write about the Galileo affair.

Hm? Are you saying that the sun and earth form a binary system?

Are you referring to the entire solar system moving through the Milky Way and that the Milky Way is moving too (relative to the rest of the universe)? I am not sure that any astronomers of Galileo’s era were making such a claim. I don’t think science had advanced that far.

That`s true; but at the time, it was still better than saying that Earth is stationary. Tycho and others made use of all sorts of complicated loops etc to explain the motions of the (other) observable planets; but the real thing is a hell of a lot easier for physics.

If almost the entire universe orbits the earth (in 23 hrs 56 mins), so much for the velocity of matter having to be less than the velocity of light! 🤷

Eat your hearts out: Copernicus, Einstein, Lemaitre et al! 😃
