a boyhood friend of mine who later became a priest.That is not quite the same as smearing all priests with the actions of a few.I repeat,"Robbie Williams avoids treating Islam the same way because he is afraid of the suicide battalions."As for having a persecution complex,i think Protestant 101 is having a laugh.I’ve heard of too many occasions where Protestants bring something like the Spanish Inquisition into their discussion with Catholics.It was never intended to be the topic in hand.It was a dodge to take the wind out of the catholic sails and demonstrate how badly catholics treated them.

How much outrage was there in the world when some Muslims (just 2 weeks ago) attacked a church, murdered the priest and (I think) 2 deacons, then they converted the church to a mosque! Did we Catholics hear about it in our Sunday mass from our local priest? Did the press report this? Did we march in the streets to show the Muslim world we were upset?

Heck when a Danish newspaper posted a cartoon of Muhammad with a bomb in his turban the whole of the Muslim world erupted . . . but when our own are murdered and our church is desecrated we sit on our hands. So when Robin Williams makes fun of priests what do you expect is going to happen. NOT A DARN THING!!!

He knows it and he is right. We are at fault. 😦

I know the scandal is the fault of our Church, but I do not agree that we need to engage in perpetual self-flaggelation (‘well, we deserve this.’)

When a man makes ignorant, sick and frightful jokes like Robin Williams does, I am going to call him on it.

Sorry, I know way too many good and holy priests who are subjected to strange gazes, mocking, and even spitting at times through absolutely no fault on their own. I know that to follow in the image of Christ means you should expect to get spit on, but I am going to stick up for them.

In the mean time, I will pray for Robin Williams, for the victims of sex abuse, for all priests, and for our culture. I do not expect much from NBC.

I think the reason you need to care is not because he has anything iimportant to say. But because of who he is (world renowned comedian) he has a large following and denigrating the Church is scandalous. If he had done that to the Muslim faith he would have needed to look behind his back for a long time.
Pam Stephenson? so what. Her husband Billy connelly, so what?
All in all its important because of their high profile and like it or not people are influenced by their “favorite caharacters”.
I defend the church whenever and however I can, not because Jesus cannot send a legion of angels to protect His bride but because I dont want to be found “sleeping” I know I dont achieve much, but I will stand up for the Church and our beliefs and priests.

Public demeaning, lampooning, berating and scorning the Church is the harbinger of persecution.

This is what Robin Williams is doing willfully or unwittingly. This sort of derision will bring about more closet Catholic haters out if gone unchallenged.

Robin Williams must be notified by the Catholic community how offensive, careless, evil and dangerous his “humor” is towards us. This is how Naziism got started and even the persecution by Nero of the Christians. They each held public contempt towards the yet-to-be persecuted. Derision precedes oppression of a group.

Robin Williams ought to readup on how presedents are set for persecution. Or, at the least, get a Christian writer for his public appearances. But then again, there is no audience for repecting Catholicism.

Robin Williams does not approve of “generalities” but yet, it’s OK to “generalize” criminals in the priesthood as being the core of the Catholic priesthood. He should be censured after given fair notice beforehand.
 
You simply can’t blame the Church for the sexual abuses of some priests. To me, it is Judas Syndrome. Judas was chosen to be one of the disciples of Jesus, but he betrayed the trust and the office that was given him by Jesus himself.

So much like the priests that are reported to have committed sexual abuses, you can not blame the Catholic Church for it, that will be tantamount to blaming the apostles and Jesus for Judas’ betrayal of the faith.

I think we should expose these erring priests and we should not tolerate it but then again let’s not pass the sins of this person as the sins of mystical body of Christ for we all know that the Church militant is still in its phase of working for its salvation and we do fall sometimes but God’s mercy is upon us.

And also, we should stand up for our faith and denounce these attacks from people like Rosie O’Donell, Robin Williams and other disgruntled individuals. We can start by praying for their conversation to the truth.

Absolutely correct…the Church is not at fault for what a few of its member do. In a beautiful twist of irony, sexual misconduct by clergy in both Protestant Churches and Jewish synagogues is estimated to be at least twice what it is in the Catholic Church, yet nowhere is it condemned as forcefully as it is when it is the Cahtolics? Coincidence, or a little bit of good old-fashioned anti-Catholic bigotry? I’m inclined to think it’s bigotry but a non-Catholic friend of mine once remarked that he thinks it is because Catholics are viewed as the holy ones, so when they screw up, people really take notice.

No, but you can certainly hold the bishops accountable for their actions, and that should, by all means, be done. From what I’ve seen, most of the issue isn’t so much the abuse - that was certainly bad enough - but the scandal that ensued when many of our bishops sought to cover up that abuse. To this day there are bishops who still see nothing wrong with removing the priest from the situation and putting him somewhere to recommit his heinous acts, often without any kind of supervision, or warning to the innocent souls about to get stuck with the man. In some cases, those bishops are still doing the “pedophile shuffle”, in spite of paying out huge amounts of money to settle these lawsuits. They see nothing wrong with their actions. We should definitely pray for these men - they need it.

This may be just folklore but I read along time ago that Jesus did NOT choose Judas as He did the others. Judas came to Him and volunteered. Judas was not chosen in the pure sense of the meaning.

Whether that folklore is true or not, he was still a member of the original 12 apostles and this is evident on how Jesus treats him as one of his disciples.

“…One of you will betray me”.

“Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.”

It is no coincidence that attacks on the Church from Hollywood celebrities such as Rosie O’Donnell and Robin Williams (just to name a couple) either live a same-sex partnership or advocates same-sex advancement.

Robin Williams broke ground for same-sex/homosexual acceptance by starring in the film, :"…Bird Cage…or “Gage au Foille”.

The hypocrisy of Robin Williams, although he derides the pedophile priests he totally IGNORES the homesexual nature of these priests.

If a glassful of poison is divided into two half-glassfuls…IT IS STILL POISON in BOTH glasses.

Just going back and reviewing some of these comments in light of what transpired over the last couple of days.
 
A lot can happen in 7 years.

I for example was a vocal atheist for at least roughly the same amount of time, one can pray that Robin Williams at least may have changed his opinion since then.

We can hope and pray that Robin and all victims of suicide or anyone dying with what we perceive to be a dangerously troubled soul… have time enough at the end to be reconciled with Christ… to repent and be saved… to have a conversion of heart, mind and soul… and the life of the world to come. Amen.
 
Now that he has passed, I forgive him for one comment on Jay Leno and remember him for having very sensitive dramatic roles and making us laugh. I wish that he knew that the stats of pedphilia expanded way beyond Catholic priests, but now in his afterlife the light will show him.
