Yes, I agree that the problem is bigger than just an ignorant Hollywood comic and actor. I don’t ever even watch those programs, but I will send a complaint. I sent complaints whenever Rosie went on Catholic rants. I sent a complaint when Michael Savage went on an anti-Catholic rant. I just want programs to realize how many faithful Catholics there really are. It woudl give them pause…However, when the greater audience is thinking it is ever OK to make fun of religion and faithfulness to Christ, then we do have a bigger problem.

I agree, RW is not a puppet. I am simply saying he would not have a voice if companies like NBC shot him out. IMO, **NBC is every bit as anti-Catholic as RW **for having allowed that trash on their network. Attack the company for letting such garbage on the air, attack its advertisers, attack the true source of RW’s ability to demean the faith and all Catholics.

It seems that when JPII passed away they had wall to wall coverage of the funeral, conclave, etc…that doesn’t seem anti-Catholic to me.

Yes, NBC has made no apologies and it is THERE product, not RW’s. Jay Leno has made no apologies, and he heads the show, not RW. Jay Leno and NBC are anti-Catholic.

If they were anti-Catholic then the ‘everybody else was doing it’ statement simply wouldn’t apply…they would have such hatred to the core of their being for the Catholic church that they would never have allowed it to hit the airwaves.
When the abuse scandal broke…I remember Matt Lauer interviewing Cardinal Bevalicqua (sp) and referring to him as “your eminence”…that does not seem like the behavior of someone who is ‘anti-Catholic’.
On an annual basis they broadcast the midnight mass from Rome on Christmas commercial free…is that the action of a network that is “anti-Catholic”.
Your dog doesn’t hunt in this case.

I don’t like Robin Williams. I have a hard time liking somebody who left his first wife for the baby-sitter, no matter how allegedly funny. I don’t like his appeals, mostly for politically-left acitvities, even when he does a benefit for the homeless. I am not surprised by what he said on Leno, but am in the process of letting NBC and Leno know how I feel.

It is simple. When a person working for a company makes vile statements to a national audience, and the company decides to air the tape, and the company’s reps (Jay Leno and producers) do nothing to stop or even tone down the vile statements, then said company is giving direct support of the bigoted trash. It makes no difference if during other events the company was a bit more favorable.
If RW had said something truly horrible and deeply offensive about women, or minorities (think Imus here), Jay Leno and NBC would never have allowed it to air, or they would have at the very least cleaned it up for airing. Yet, the subject of RW’s perverse and sick humor was the Church and the faith, so it was considered okay to air the entire skit. That is anti-Catholocism in action, and NC/Jay Leno and RW are guilt of it.

No…that’s capitalism in action…that which advertisers and viewers will support is put on the air.
Don Imus’ comments aired on MSNBC…and were replayed many many times.
I’m not condoning what Williams said.
However…it is a bold generalization to call the network “Anti-Catholic”, when that is not what they have shown themselves to be…You’re just looking to paint us all as victims of a massive corporate conspiracy.

I don’t believe much in this idea of things being “anti-Catholic”…yes there are some misunderstandings which are sometimes preyed upon by the less informed…
But when I look at the media overall I just don’t see it. My local paper has recently carried stories about a Cardinal’s tenth anniversary, a priest deployed to Iraq, and a perpetual adoration chapel. News about the priest who is on trial for sexual abuse is usually relegated to page 3 of the metro section.
TV stations give ample coverage to major events in local and universal Catholicism. When a bishop is installed, usually cameras are right there providing at least a webcast…show me another faith that gets that kind of treatment from the media that is soooo against them.
Bishop Sheen got a Sunday night program 50 years ago that put US Catholicism on the map for petes sake!
To say that we somehow are struggling to get our message across is just not true.
Just because a media outlet does not agree with a stance on the moral rightness of something (like abortion) does not make then ‘anti-Catholic’…it simply makes them wrong from a moral perspective.
I can go to work everyday and talk about being Catholic and no one thinks I’m going to start bombing abortion clinics. The same can’t be said for the suspicion cast on muslims in this country.
It’s all a big ball of victimhood that isn’t necessary for us to wear.

I don’t agree at all.
You are refusing to see that most media outlets do not strive to banish Catholic thought from the airwaves…and a large number of the folks who work for these networks identify as “Catholic”.
