Robin Williams Attacks Catholic Priests and Points Out Lack of Consequences

I don’t agree at all.

You are refusing to see that most media outlets do not strive to banish Catholic thought from the airwaves…and a large number of the folks who work for these networks identify as “Catholic”.

I think that many in the media are anti-catholic. Even for the coverage of John Paul II’s funeral, I tried to stay with EWTN. Often when they want an opinion on something Catholic, they bring out the most irreverant priests to interview or the nuns that are rebellious. They rarely will interview the most of faithful priests, like Fr. Pavone for instance. Yet how ofter have we seen Fr. McBrien (recently passed away Jesuit that was very progressive) or Fr. Greeley? Also they choose to listen to Catholics that are not faithful Catholics on how we can bend the rules to believe what we wish or what is comfortable. Think politicians that shall remain nameless that say they are Catholic and pro-choice.

Robin Williams thinks he can insult Catholics because of how the media handles all things Catholic. He would never have said similar things about another religion that shall also remain nameless that gets violent when confronted with any slight criticism.

You may not see the attacks and I am not sure why, but they are there every day.

It’s cheap humor.

Sadly, right now the ‘image’ of a Catholic priest can be made a caricature pretty easily. The caricature always revolves around sex somehow…either it’s of a bishop blasting a politician over abortion…or a priest abusing little boys. Neither does justice to the work the good men of the priesthood are doing.

The way we as a church handled matters about sex in the last 40 years has a lot to do with the caricature, which is unfortunate.

Well put frommi, It’s just cheap humor and not even really funny to me anyway. Personally I always cringe when I see comics use this, it’s just a cheap easy laugh.

That was not the original thesis at all. It was just a posting of the article. NBC ws something someone added along the way. NBC is Anti-catholic though, in my opinion.

I will have to say the Fr. Pavone is not like a sleeping pill. I am quite sure most religious would not be as media savy as the networks would prefer. However, I am must saying that when they want a Catholic viewpoint, they should actually pick a faithful Catholic to ask.

If we are to stay on topic, then we have to mention RW. He is definitely anti-Catholic to have mocked our religion, our priests, and our sacrament of confession. He intimated that priests that are trying to be celibate are turned on by confession. His rant was rather disgusting if you have not listened to it.

If NBC was not anti-Catholic they would have blocked his entire routinen

Good points. I was the person who said NBC is anti-Catholic. Some people take that to mean I am saying every person at NBC is anti-Catholic, but that is NOT what I am saying. The Tonight Show remains a very significant product of NBC and RW blasted the Church and the faith on that show without being slowed or stopped in any way. NBC could have chosen to not air the perverse and sick views of RW, yet NBC chose to let it be aired, which means NBC has attached itself directly to RW’s remarks. If NBC released a comment distancing itself from the comments, then my charge of anti-Catholocism would be more difficult to apply to NBC…yet they have not retracted or apologized for any of RW’s remarks.
