Recently my daughter spoke with a social worker in my family home in regards to social services. I was shocked to find that this Rochester NY based Catholic agency has a list of gay parents waiting for adoption. When I questioned this the social worker said “Isn’t this great!” - like I was supposed to be excited that a Catholic agency was allowing gay adoptions. Does anyone know if this is happening in other Catholic adoption agencies throughout the states?

Your website link does not say anything to support your post.

I must add that one would never know that the Catholic Family Center of Rochester, NY offers gay adoptions by looking at their website. I needed to be in a situation where my daughter was pregnant and out of wedlock and inquiring for help from this particular agency. Frankly I feel deceived by the term ‘Catholic’ in the title of this agency. Is there any recourse for this? I hate to think of how may Catholics in this diocese give yearly contributions that end up in the pockets of this agency that calls itself Catholic.

I know - my hands are bound. Post #3 explains. What should I do? What can be done to stop this?
Call the Bishop and ArchBishop. Send a note to the editor in the Rochester newspaper.

Unless you have some documentation to verify this, I would not go sending in a letter to the editor of the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester. Without verifying the information you are only slamming a good organization. That would not be a Christian thing to do.

We need to remain vigilant that the local paper does not publish unsubstantiated anti Catholic propaganda.

Suffering…
I will take a deep breath, pray and do this. Signing a letter like that these days in a diocese like this can only mean one thing to me and my family - suffering. I wonder if the letter to the editor will even get posted.

It is true that I have nothing in paper, recordings and such to verify it but it did happen. It is the truth and I am shocked to think that such deception and covering is going on.

And how else are Catholics in this diocese ever going to know?

My daughter/family turned to the Catholic agency because it is Catholic.

I certainly hope it does not. You have nothing verifying - except a conversation.

I am local. If I get a chance, I am going to call. Sorry, but I do not find this credible.

Why don’t you go to Catholic Charities in Rochester?

Calling is going to get you nothing but defensive people. I am pretty sure one would need a pregnancy to interest a social worker in confiding.

You are certainly correct here.
If this is true it is disgusting

If there is no Catholic options locally, have you looked into Bethany House? It is a Christian Organization. We have been to an event funded by Bethany. I am not sure what their parameters are. One of the families in my parish recently was blessed with a daughter through Bethany.

God Bless

Thanks for the tip but daughter has chosen to raise the baby on her own. She has made this decision on her own and I’m thankful. I wanted the decision to be her own.

Well, God Bless. She sounds like she will have a loving gramma helping her.

I’ve changed my mind about submitting a letter to the editor of my local paper.
Ten years or so ago I dared to write a letter that condemned open homosexual living. Today is another story. I have to protect innocent people involved - especially my pregnant daughter.
I for one am not afraid of persecution for standing up for my Church but when it involves an innocent person growing in the womb then I need to think twice.
It is a pity that some Catholic adoption agencies are not really a safe place for unwed mothers to turn to.
Two things I will do is contact my bishop and explain to him what is really going on. I will also pray that a change comes about in this and any other similar ‘Catholic’ agencies.
