Unholy disappointment? TFA had 100% less Jar-Jar than the genuinely crummy prequels, which by itself alone disqualifies it from being a disappointmentStar Wars is gone and done for me after the unholy disappointment that was Force Awakens.
To these new films I say: “Discedite a me, maledicti, in ignem æternum!”
For a second, I thought it was the original actress. Then I remembered she would be around 80 now. After seeing that trailer, I was squeeing at seeing the old uniforms, the old Yavin set and Mon Mothma again.
Huh I thought TFA had a lot more color than even the originals did. That’s part of why I liked it so much. The duel in the snow was gorgeous with the red and blue lights. That scene, and the sheer gleefulness and enthusiasm of the cast, was enough to secure multiple viewings from me.From a film perspective, I thought Episode 7 was awful. It stole plot elements from the other movies, didn’t have enough colour (why are Disney action movies all in grey scale?!), and the character’s feats seemed to contradict what we’ve seen in other movies.
While I agree he was insufferable, I do like the Darth Jar Jar theory.Unholy disappointment? TFA had 100% less Jar-Jar than the genuinely crummy prequels, which by itself alone disqualifies it from being a disappointment![]()
Ha! When it showed her II thought “no way, she’s in it?” Then the closeup showed it was a different actress. And I remembered it was 30+ years later. :doh2:For a second, I thought it was the original actress. Then I remembered she would be around 80 now.
That Darth Jar Jar theory on Reddit was so convincing, I really thought it might be true. But then I rewatched the prequels and was like… “Nope. Not buying it.”While I agree he was insufferable, I do like the Darth Jar Jar theory.![]()
She had filmed some scenes for Revenge of the Sith, but they were deleted from the theatrical release. For a second, I thought it was the original actress. Then I remembered she would be around 80 now.
Great casting choice though. Whoever that actress is, she nailed the body language and voice of Mon Mothma.
Kylo Ren was awesome. I was stoked to get a villain with some actual depth, and room to grow. I don’t understand the hate Force Awakens gets for the ‘blow the big station up’ subplot. It isn’t the point of the movie, like it was for New Hope. It’s completely incidental - a stage piece to tell the character story. Jedi ripped off the ‘blow the thing up’ way more than Force Awakens did.Not only was Force Awakens a mediocre copy of superior predecessors, it took a dump on the story’s hitherto happy ending for no reason and soiled it forever. That’s worse than Lucas failing to live up to his own legacy when telling the prequels.
Plus the worst villains in the franchise’s history. Abortions.
Me too. I loved all his scenes, even the ones where he slashes things up. Adam Driver gave a great performance.Kylo Ren was awesome. I was stoked to get a villain with some actual depth, and room to grow.
Right, it doesn’t play the same role that the Death Star did in ANH. Sure it was a little disappointing that it was another super-weapon, but I can overlook it because it served more as a background for the character interactions. And that lightsaber battle at the end was absolutely worth a little retread.I don’t understand the hate Force Awakens gets for the ‘blow the big station up’ subplot. That’s interesting. I didn’t know that. Glad she’s getting a chance to play the character again. She had filmed some scenes for Revenge of the Sith, but they were deleted from the theatrical release.

Ahahaha. Don’t make me sin, brothers and sisters.Me too. I loved all his scenes, even the ones where he slashes things up. Adam Driver gave a great performance.
I really liked the fact that he was more of a lost kid trying to prove himself and live up to his legacy than a pure evil character.
