Rogue One a Star Wars Story

I saw it and liked it. Different than The Force Awakens.

We’re people unaware of what this movie was about? They announced the central point of the plot and it’s place in relation to lather movies over a year ago and kept no secrets about it. Maybe I’m just a Star Wars dork.
 
Kind of reminded me of ‘Seven Samurai,’ not plot-wise so much but cast-wise.

I know some people didn’t like TFA because it was too similar to ANH…but ANH is my favorite Star Wars movie (yes, yes…I know ESB is “better”) just because of how little 10 year old me was mesmerized by it. A LOT of those old feelings were brought back for TFA.

I enjoyed it! I liked that it was different and I feel better about the creation of more side stories in the future if they can supplement the core Episodes as well as this one did. I loved how it sets up ANH so well and adds a new layer of gravity and desperation to it. I wanted to go home and watch it again. I definitely like this new history more than “Bevel Limelisk messed up” set up by the Legends novels and I’m glad this this is now the “canonical” reason for…things.

But I’m glad they tweaked it so that it was not an “Episode” (no crawl, etc.). I don’t think I could handle a bittersweet Episode tilting that heavily towards the bitter…except maybe Revenge of the Sith because no one really expected that to end well.
 
Saw it yesterday on Christmas.

I very much liked how they made the ending lead you to Episode IV.
 
While I liked it, the basic premise was flawed enough that it really hampered me from truly loving it.

I’ve put a brief explanation below. Highlight it to read it:

The whole point was to get the plans for the Death Star. Galen Erso could have sent that with the pilot instead of a hologram. The plans are small enough to fit in R2D2, so size wasn’t an issue. He could’ve included it in his hologram message to Jyn. That whole battle on the beach was about transmitting the plans to the fleet. They were communicating with the fleet so they could’ve sent it then. Also, the excuse that the plans were such a large file doesn’t solve the problem since they really only need to know which opening to shoot and what defenses were on that part of the Death Star.
 
Why didn’t Darth Vader just use the force to grab the battle plans at the end of the movie? They were certainly within range.

I’m more than a little annoyed that we waited for you to see it and then it’s ok to post about it.
I’m not going to play the spoiler game anymore. The name is in the thread if it’s past the release date and you don’t want spoilers then don’t read it. I’m tired if colored font, wondering what we can say etc. I’m done. I’m not playing the game anymore.

Ok rouge one. Very good, very dark. Everyone dies. The way others wonder about the plot I wonder about that. There really could have been many main character survivors outside of the original characters. The budding romance could have been completely fine if she had given the plans to help the rebellion and escaped. She could have honored her father and been done. Especially with her displeasure at the rebellion that was vocalized. The droid could have lived as well. For sure the blind guy could have lived or even the ptsd pilot.
Overall I liked it. It could have used more Vader. I could do without the obvious turn to the eastern religions with “the force”.

You could do that with every single Star Wars movie.

What I’ve always wondered about TFA is why Leah is some lame general and not a Jedi!?
It makes no sense. She was always supposed to be the “other option” for both the dark side and light side of the force but then Luke goes mia and suddenly he is the only Jedi that can help, and Leah’s son is reeking havoc like an intergalactic hitler and Leah is just some random general!?

It’s a little late now given recent events but still.

Not necessarily. Carrie Fisher, along with the rest of the cast, has already finished principal photography on Episode 8. So we know Leia is in the next movie. Maybe she will get to show off some Jedi skills? Or perhaps we will get an explanation as to why she chose NOT to become a Jedi.
 
I loved it. I enjoyed it even more than The Force Awakens.. It was a worthy expansion of the Star Wars universe.
 
It was a good story but not great. Would I see it again? Maybe, but it is not on my list of ‘I’m really looking forward to seeing it again.’ In some ways, it reminded me of The Force Awakens which I didn’t like for a few reasons, one being the villain and his behavior.
