Do you not know how the Internet works? What a page says at any given moment in time is not proof of what it said in the past.
CNA deliberately misquoted the priest. The source proves it. If you believe that the blog was changed then prove it.

Okay, true enough. I will back off my accusation, and merely point out that the blog does not say what CNA claimed it said. You are right, I overstepped and I apologize for that.
Then we are in essential agreement. I also thank you for pointing out the inconsistency between the two sites. I too hope that there is further work done on this story.

And if CNA relied on some unreliable source (or worse), I’d say we should ask CAF to drop them as a source of reliable stories.

What the blog says today is not proof of what it said when the story was written.
If you believe that the blog was changed then prove it.
I said it was a possibility, one that exonerates CNA. I’m willing to wait for all the facts. Are you?

We already have the facts! We have CNA falsely attributing a quote to that priest and the source which proves it. There’s no evidence that the blog was edited.

We already have the facts!
No we don’t.
We have CNA falsely attributing a quote to that priest…
That’s a conclusion, not a fact.
and the source which proves it.
Again, no it doesn’t prove it.
There’s no evidence that the blog was edited.
Other than the CNA report, of course. 😉

Perhaps you are referring to the blog itself not having an “edited on” timestamp?

No we don’t.
As I said, if you have evidence to support your assertion that Father Farrow edited his blog then feel free to provide the proof. Otherwise, you’re just grasping at straws.

Oh, yes, guilty until proven innocent. If CNA can show that Fr. Farrow changed his blog in reaction to their story, I would very much be interested in seeing their evidence.
No it isn’t. CNA made a claim that was proven false by reviewing CNA’s source.
:okpeople: Ok folks, listen up. :okpeople:

There is a simple way to verify this, which I have just done. Namely, by checking Google’s prior cache of the blog in question.

Here is how the blog reads at this moment in time:
  1. Divest the full amount of your Knights of Columbus life insurance policy immediately. Take the check and invest the funds with an LGBT friendly fund. If every priest and K of C insurance policy holder were to do this, it would create a considerable capital drain on K of C and cripple their ability to write large checks to thwart LGBT legislation and ballot initiatives.

  2. Borrow the full amount against your Knights of Columbus life insurance policy immediately. Take the check and invest the funds with an LGBT friendly fund. Do not pay back the loan. If every priest and K of C insurance policy holder were to do this, it would create a considerable capital drain on K of C and cripple their ability to write large checks to thwart LGBT legislation and ballot initiatives.

CNA did NOT falsify the quotation from the blog; the blog was changed.

Carry on.

I have already posited one scenario wherein the CNA report is 100% true and CNA is innocent of all charges.
There’s no harm in conceding the possibilty. 😉

Note:
For the benefit of others, blogspot (where Fr. Farrow has located his blog) is part of Google’s Blogger effort. It is a simple matter to create, edit, post-date, pre-date, delete and fabricate a blog trail, all without visible “modified on” timestamps. Calendar entries can be re-ordered and redated in seconds. One could create a year-long “papertrail” in a matter of minutes. And then change it completely the next day. The fact that the blog entry says “posted by Father Geoff at 12:58 PM on Jun 4, 2009” is, unfortunately, no guarantee that that is when it happened.
**Please note: **I’m just saying that that is a feature of the blog software.

You beat me to it! :crying:
That was to be my crushing rejoinder if simple logic didn’t work.

Oh, that is pretty slimy. Not only for changing the blog after it was reported on, but for advocating something so unethical. Fr. Farrow should have known better.

As should I have. I apologize to everyone for sidetracking the discussion of this thread with my baseless accusation.

And my opinion of Fr. Farrow has sunk.

Dale, no apologies are needed. You had a sincere belief and that you shouldn’t have to apologise. When presented with clear unbiased information you had the integrity to realize where the truth is.

I just hope the other posters who accused CNA will have the same integrity and recant.

No need my friend. Hard argued points are expected. I was impressed by your willingness to concede the possibility that CNA had acted appropriately. 👍

Been burned myself many times! I never heard of a google cache until today so at least we all leraned something!

Disgusting! Does this priest not realize what the Church teaches about gay marriage and homosexual “rights”? The only rights that homosexuals should have are the same rights that heterosexuals have and that includes the right to marry… that is the right to marry someone of the opposite sex!

I hope that the authorities have been alerted as to the fact that this man is **promoting a criminal act. **Who in their right mind would post on their own blog that it is ok to not repay back a loan??? :whacky: Seems Mr. Geoff Barrow is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I hope the Knights of Columbus sue the pants off this guy!

Thanks CNA for outing this coward. 👍

I think the Venerable Michael J. McGivney, the founder of the Knights of Columbus and a faithful priest of Holy Mother Church, would want us to pray for the soul of Fr. Farrow, an obviously confused and angry individual. He, like many people, has chosen to direct his aggression to a particular group, in this case the KofC’s. I say, that’s fine. We’re the Knights. We can take it.

To me, this is a call to strengthen and bolster the ranks and works of the Knights. We’re one of the most active and generous service organizations in existence. And if people in the world feel the need to attack us for our actions and loyalty to Christ’s Church, we must be doing something right.
Vivat Jesus!
AMEN!

Dear Fr. Geoffrey Farrow,

I have two questions for you:

–why did you become a Catholic priest?
–why are you still a (non-laicized) Catholic priest?

Because your statements and your actions are antithetical to both your role and to the fundamental beliefs of the institution. It would be like someone getting elected to Congress and then “becoming an activist” for subverting the Constitution.

I don’t question how someone can have (or develop) doubts and even come to oppose a group of which he is a member. But when the beliefs of the person and the principles of the organization are irreconcilably opposed, then it’s madness to stay within the organization.

The priesthood is not a prison, Father. You’re free to leave.

As to the supposed “rage” of numerous priests that supposedly have contacted you, why don’t you anonymously post their statements of “rage,” so that the public can judge whether you’re engaging in hyperbole, or whether your viewpoint is indeed shared within a critical mass of the practiciing, non-laicized clergy?

For the sake of completeness, (and in case the blog entry changes yet again or disappears) I can confirm that the blog entry in question was modified in two places and in just the paragraph quoted by Morweena above. That is, the balance of the multi-paragraph entry remains as it was.

As of July 1, 2009, the blog entry read (in part):
entrydate: Thursday, June 4, 2009

The rest of the entry remains unchanged between the two versions.
The date, timestamp and author fields are unchanged between the two versions.
There is no visible indicator on Fr. Farrow’s blog that the entry was modified.
