Rohr video: What did Jesus Really Teach?

    But when the Catholic Church became the law of the land there was a shift in emphasis to law and order.

    I tend to agree. But applying those non-negotiables to our world today requires a great deal of discernment. And thus we have the guidance of the Church.

    So what are the more standard 5 non-negotiables? Googled:

    1. *]Abortion
      *]Human Cloning
      *]Euthanasia (assisted suicide)
      *]Stem Cell Research
      *]Homosexual "Marriage

      More adapted to very specific contemporary political issues. Notice Rohr’s are Must do’s. The standard are must not do’s.

My suggestion is to modify the statement. It is the annoying Catholic Church doctrines which dramatically flow from the first three genuine chapters of Genesis which intensely bother Father Rohr. This is why Father Rohr is listed as a Notable Progressive Christian. Scroll down to list.

“We must now rebuild on a foundation of original goodness, not any original curse or sin.” In other words, it is time to trash the first three essential chapters of Sacred Scripture.

Like Matthew Fox, (former Catholic Priest) Father Rohr does not accept Original Sin as taught by the Catholic Church. Father Rohr uses sweet honey words to trip people into his emerging Christianity which bends to modern thinking.

There is a part of Father Rohr’s messages which do follow the teachings of Jesus. We need to be aware that other parts lead away from certain Catholic doctrines.

    1. Note that the standard were created for voting purposes. It doesn’ include murder, rape, or even more general hate and envy. It is a construct for discerning political decisions and voting. Rohr’s are more a summery of what Jesus taught. These lists ought nor be compared and contrasted since they serve different purposes. One is not better than the other since they address different intentions.

      We should embrace them both.

Considering that he does not accept the first three outstanding chapters of Genesis. That way all can live with peace of mind.

I would submit that he wants us to refocus on a better Progressive Christianity, one that individuals can rebuild from the bottom up.

He accepts them but takes a different focus starting at the beginning goodness rather than the fall in chapter 3.

The first thing Jesus preached was, “Repent.” I’d expect priests to do the same.
