I’m a bishop and I posses a valid Eucharist (or at least so says the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) therefore Jesus Christ is present at mass with me and thus I am Catholic. It is true no matter what you refuse to call me.
Do tell just how you came to be a ‘bishop’.

Baloney. The word catholic means universal. It was never used as a proper name and never intended as such. The English used the word Roman to distinguish between those who adhered to the Roman Catholic Church and the Roman pontiff and those who split away such as the Anglicans and Lutherans. The English believed and still believe that their church is catholic and they would be correct.
You are protestant, if you split away now from protestantism are you still protestant. Do I really care what you call yourself if you are if fact something different.
The Catholic Church was called the Catholic Church before the reformation. When you remove yourself from the Catholic Church you are no longer Catholic. Simple, and stands to reason.

The English protestants did not merely use the term ‘Roman’ as some sort of disinterested term of differentiation between variantes of the same thing. It was a calculated insult intended to be divisive, this is made clearer by the actual terms they used, - ‘Romish’, ‘papist’, ‘popery’; By the quaint songs they sung of boiling the Pope in oil, or by the fact that to be a Catholic priest in England was an automatic death sentence - by being hanged drawn and quartered and the quarters of the carcass being boiled in oil and impaled on stakes around the city. One of my distant relatives was a priest then and was captured, hanged, drawn and quartered. So, no, those responsable for the protestant reformation and outrages against their own people were not Catholic by any stretch of the imagination.

And did the Pope approve of your election?
Yep, his name is J. P. Boucher and he lives in New Hampshire. Oh wait, you mean the bishop of Rome don’t you? Nah, he don’t even know I exist. And…?

Peace,

And that means you’re not Catholic, as I’m sure the CDF would agree. The CDF may decide you have valid (but illicit) sacraments if it ever decided to look into your cosy little organisation, but that is a totally separate matter from being part of the Catholic Church.

Please know that I am not here to offend, but to clarify. I never claimed to be part of the (Roman) Catholic Church, as you may discern from my signature. My claim of being part of the Church Catholic, however, is irrefutable.

If (big IF) your ordination is in fact valid doesn’t really matter. You’re a schismatic. While our current Holy Father may not know who you are I’m certain our first Holy Father DOES know your name and he’ll have something to say to you about your ‘office’.

Come Home.

Before you pick on poor Fr. Nate…I would look inward. See what the RCC wrought by going into schism from the Church established by Christ. You gave birth to others…and so on…and so on. 😉

Come Home. By the way, not a bad time of year to swim to Constantinople. I can arrange for a nice bath towel, a Gyros, and cup of hot Turkish coffee. The Church of Christ Jesus awaits you.
{PS If you are bringing Benedict with you give me a heads up and I will bring two of everything and throw in some Baklava too}

If a stranger in Chattanooga asked you “Would you please tell me where the Catholic Church is?”, where would you send him?

And we can see here from the continued use of RCC instead of CC or Catholic Church as is our official name, that it truly is an insult, and nothing more.

In the official documents of the Catholic church, she only refers to herself as the Catholic Church or simply the Church, only using Roman to differentiate between different rites within the Church. This has been so before the Reformation after the Reformation and before and after the schism between Orthodox and Catholic.

Those who Call us Roman, or RCC only do so in an attempt to state their beliefs that the Catholic Church is not the Church Christ founded.

We are the Catholic Church.

I do humbly and sincerely apologize if I have offended you. You are the Catholic Church. Of course that does not change the fact that you left the church that Christ founded and went in to schism (developed new and innovative doctrines and continue to). You have a right to do that. You certainly do not answer to me. I think though the facts are on the side of Orthodoxy.

You are welcome to call yourself anything you like just like frnate has the same right to call his group a Catholic Church.

Perhaps we could call yours the Catholic Church HQed in Rome or the Catholic church founded in 1054??🤷 WHat is preferable if the Orthodox IS the Church founded by Christ. How should we differentiate to everyones satisfaction and in order to offend no one including frnate and the numerous other groups who call themselves the Catholic Church?

I read somewhere that on all church documents the title is CATHOLIC CHURCH, however as the pope is the bishop of Rome the papers pertaining to that parish have roman in the articles.

So are you claiming to be Orthodox now? Again, you don’t know your history. I take the fathers of the Church over schismatics.

Where Peter is, there is the Church.
  • St. Ambrose of Milan, AD 385
Why did He shed His blood? That He might gain possession of those sheep which He intrusted to Peter and to his successors.
-St. John Chrysostom, AD 387

I am held in the communion of the Catholic Church by… the succession of priests from the very Chair of the Apostle Peter, to whom the Lord, after his resurrection, committed His sheep to be fed, even to the present Episcopate.
  • St. Augustine of Hippo, circa AD 400

So are you claiming to be Orthodox now?
Nope. :tiphat:

I am just a fellow schismatic along with you. You broke from the Church founded by Christ, we from you, the Methodists from us.
😦

Maybe we should all go home 😉

Serioulsy, I am fine with you being you just don’t claim to be THE church. I don’t think the facts are with you (many innovative doctrines and so on). Benedict is a great man but most certainly wrong on this point. You and we (many we’s) are all operating along the periphery. This does not mean we are not Christian or that we are going to hell it just means we do not experience the fullness of the faith that the Orthodox do.

Everybody has been getting along fine for centuries referring to “the Catholic Church” and “the (Eastern) Orthodox Church(es)”. We all know what those terms mean. Why do you want to suddenly start giving everyone new names?

And when an organisation has been known for 2000 years as the Catholic Church, somebody can’t just start up a new organisation and demand that everyone call it the Catholic Church. If somebody today founded a new country and demanded that everybody call it “France”, I think France would object and everbody else would be confused and laugh at him.

So you conscientiously believe that the Eastern Orthodox Churches have the fullness of the Christian faith, and yet you have deliberately decided not to join them? And you think you will not be condemned for this action which you believe have undertaken with full knowledge and consent? You think having part of the faith is better for you than having all of it?

While our current Holy Father may not know who you are I’m certain our first Holy Father DOES know your name and he’ll have something to say to you about your ‘office’.
Don’t I know it, sometimes it keeps me up at night. And not because I’m concerned about what God will say regarding my submission to Rome. My first concern is what my answer will be when He asks me, “Did you feed my sheep?”
Come Home.
I truly appreciate the invitation. For now I must be considered a conscientious objector. I cannot in good conscience join my self to Rome. Understand, I do NOT object to Rome as a whole and I certainly do not reject her as she rejects me.

Maybe this really would be better treated in another thread. I’ll be happy to play if someone wants to start one.

Peace,

If a stranger in Chattanooga asked you “Would you please tell me where the Catholic Church is?”, where would you send him?
600 years prior to the Great Schism, St. Augustine’s observation was quite astute. Now, not so much. Unfortunately, now I would need to determine which jurisdiction he was looking for. Admittedly, he would in all likelihood be searching for a congregation in union with Rome, and I will be happy to point him in the right direction.

HEY! Are you calling me a heretic??!!?? 😃

I am truly sorry if you feel insulted. I would point out that sweeping generalizations are never accurate. I believe you would be better served if you would take us at our word when we say it is not intended as insult. I will admit there are those who do say and believe what you accuse us of. I assure you, I am not that ignorant.
