Wesoloski was released from the health center a week after he was admitted. He has been free to roam the 40 acres of land of the Vatican. He is confined to Vatican City but is free to move around within.
“Arrested on 40 hectares”
Wesolowski is no longer in the health center, he told BBC deputy director of the press office of the Holy See, Ciro Benedettini.
Although “it remains under arrest in the Vatican,” he said.
But it is not under house arrest. "Monsignor Wesolowski is not confined in his room. You can walk by the Vatican for its 40 acres (0.44 square kilometers). "
He remains in detention pending the trial for pedophilia against him, which does not have date resume.
“As we know will tell the media immediately,” he said Benedettini.

According to the Vienna Convention which the Dominican Republic has signed; Wesolowski cannot be tried in the DR but instead in the country of origin of the diplomat.

Hmmmmm? Let’s hope someone is keeping an eye on him if he is free to wander.

It must be noted that Pope Francis has made it very clear that the days of shielding and obfuscation are gone, and that if Wesolowski is convicted he will face the full penalties of both church and civil authorities.

Certain elements opposed to the Holy Father’s social and economic views never make note of his strong opposition against the past mishandling of the clerical sex abuse scandals.

Somehow, his firm resolve in this matter leads some to think (mistakenly) that this somehow impunes both Pope Benedict’s and St. John Paul II’s handling of this blight on the church. However, clearer minds understand that the passing of time, more information available for discernment, and specific acknowledgement and contrition within the entire hierarchy of the church, has allowed Pope Francis to act with more clarity and certainty.

If it is proved that Wesolowski is indeed the deviant fiend he is charged with being, then the Vatican grounds will be the last place he will be welcome to stroll. The prison yard is more likely.

I agree.

I think that the prosecutors can be more demanding. If Wesolowski does not feel very well, well, the children he molested do not feel very well either. Most of the children have stopped going to psychological support groups because they cannot afford the transportation. I think compensation, which has not been mentioned, needs to also be addressed by the Vatican.

The obstacle for fixing a date for the trial is Article 471 of the Criminal Code, which establishes that a new hearing date must be set once the medical cause for postponing the original hearing has passed. Well, some ‘causes’ can take years to cure or may become chronic - so - I just hope the prosecutors understand millions of people are awaiting justice for the cruel sexual molestation of children and do not allow Wesolowski to play chess with the legal system.

And, yes, he is allowed to roam 40 acres of land. One would assume it is per doctors order for his health that he should be allowed to walk around. Well, he can walk around a cell.

Wesolowski and his Polish accomplice molested children from the parishes and the poor shoe shiners.

I know you post many threads on this case. Praying for justice. I did not know he had an accomplice.

Thank you for your support 7 Sorrows, I appreciate it.

All through my life it has been my honor and a great blessing to help the ‘limpiabotas’ (shoe shiners) and it really disturbs me to learn a person holding the highest title of the Catholic Church molested many of them for a period of five years. The limpiabotas are children of very poor families who go to the towns or cities to shine shoes to help support their families to pay for basic needs.

Justice! Mr. Wesolowski is not big enough to be able to provide justice. The damage has been inmmense. The Dominican children cannot trust the priests as they once did, now they need to take precaution and so do the parents. Many children have learned of the horrible acts of Mr. Wesolowski and his accomplice Polish priest. A lot of innocence has been lost and harm is immense and will continue for generations to come.

Putting that man away for seven years will not undo the damage he has caused. Seven years seems to be the maximum sentence he will get as per law ( I read that someplace - don’t quote me on it- I still cannot believe it would be so little). What he did in Puerto Rico was pretty bad too.

I don’t want the prosecutors to relax with this, I want the pressure kept on it. I want the little justice the legal system can provide.

The Dominican Republic has been blessed through history with many holy priests - we are still picking the fruits from their harvest. And to have that man come over and do so much damage and hurt the work of so many priests is really upsetting.

I wasn’t sure of the circumstances of his case. I had heard he targeted poor neighborhoods, but I did not know he specifically targeted the young shoe signers. Did he live in the Dominican Republic for the full five years? I know he did a lot of damage in five years. 7 years does not seem like justice. He is elderly so I hope they don’t delay too long with a trial.
