Rome, Dec. 18, 2007 (CWNews.com)- Rome’s city council has voted against registering homosexual civil unions, the daily La Repubblica reports.
The Green and Communist parties had backed the proposed measure. Mayor Walter Veltroni had spoken out in favor of civil unions in the past, although he was not present for the vote, and his Democratic party opposed the legislation that was defeated by a 43-12 vote.
Franco Grillini, a Socialist parliamentarian and honorary head of the homosexual activist group Arcigay, vowed: “The fight must go on.
