I don’t have a problem with you believing what you wish, I’m just intrigued to find multiple and repeated references to Obama’s mom and her family among your posts of the last week or two, on a thread about Romney’s secret video. Forgive me for trying to figure out how the latter is related to the former.
For the third time, because another poster made inaccurate statements to try to claim that unlike Romney, Obama could relate to everyday people because he had such an impoverished and tragic upbringing. Several people countered them with facts. That’s all.

In fact both candidates had great advantages not afforded us common folk. That’s the reality. Romney probably had more financial advantages but Obama was given many opportunities and advantages regarding education and was basically catapulted to the Presidency based on charisma and speech making rather than accomplishments.

My mistake then. I could have sworn you’ve been discussing his family history since the week before. I was simply trying to understand what connection you’re making between the Dunhams/Obamas and Romney’s 47% video.

What actual conversation on which issues?

My first post of this recent series has been trying to disentangle the Obama-Dunham family history from the title of this thread. I’m confused…there must be some relation between the two
Ask Cmatt Hes the onewho said we should vote for Obama because his family was poor.

I hate what he stands for
Abortion
Agree
Ignoring the Constitution when it suits him
Subjective
Big government
I’m fine with big government
It’s okay by me
Redistribution
The Tax Code does this already to some extent
Cronyism and the Chicago Way of politics
Subjective
Homosexual agenda
Depends on how that’s defined.
I think he is ruining our country. I’ve seen his policies ruin many lives.
Subjective
You’re right my dislike for this man is intense but it has nothing to do with his skin color.
I believe you.
Further I think his supporters claim race to try to shut down an actual conversation on the issues.
I’m certain that some do.

Chacun à sa propre conviction 🙂 🙂

I do not live in the US but I wanted people in this discussion to understand what is at stake.

I am helping someone to recover from Mormonism. If Romney is elected, he will be the first non-Christian president.

**Romney believes that the Holy Catholic Church is the Church of Satan, he believes that God was once a man, he believes that the Virgin Mary had sex with God to conceive Jesus and he believes that if he lives a “good Mormon” life, he will become a god himself. **

If Catholics vote for Romney, they will elect someone whose beliefs are against everything they stand for. The Mormon faith believes that:
  • There is no Hell, even unrepentant murderers and rapists will have everlasting joy and happiness
  • Contraception is ok
  • Abortion is ok in certain circumstances, which are so loosely defined that they could apply to any woman who didn’t want her baby.
  • God is a changeable being, so they can change their beliefs to fit with the time (see below) so they could easily support gay marriage, for example.
  • Mormons teach that black skin is a punishment, the “mark of Cain”. Black people were forbidden their priesthood and not allowed in their temples until 1978. That meant that they couldn’t fulfil many of the Mormon “ordinances” and therefore were shut out of the highest of the “three heavens” of the Mormon faith.
This man’s principles are against everything the Catholic Church believes. I cannot understand how a Catholic can stand as his vice-president but Romney clearly chose him to lure Catholics to vote for them.

I would suggest voting for Obama just to make sure Romney doesn’t get in, as it is very unlikely that he would have enough seats to enact the legislation you fear, it would likely not even be put to a vote.

Please don’t be fooled, if Romney gets in, there are dark days ahead for the Church.

If you’d be kind enough to show me where he said that, I might just take you up on that suggestion.
Here ya go:

**Yeah but I’d rather have someone like President Obama in these times who at least has a background from which to understand the poor and the sick. His mother was on food stamps for a time. He watched her on her death bed struggle with private insurance companies. He passed up higher paying jobs for himself and worked on the streets of Chicago among the community right alongside Catholic parishes. Organizing things like job training, college prep, involved in tenants’ rights. Behind closed doors when he doesn’t think anyone is listening, Romney talks the talk about the 47% who are not his job to care about. Obama however has actually walked the walk with them. **

I don’t believe for one moment that Romney harbors these feelings about the Catholic Church, and I’m not a Romney supporter. As Cardinal Dolan stated, and I’m paraphrasing: there are reasons why one might not want to vote for Romney, but his religion should not be one of them. The race and religion of a candidate should be irrelevant.

That is what the Mormon faith teaches, that the Early Christian Church (ie the Catholic Church) changed the Bible to remove references to the kind of beliefs outlined above, brought in pagan practices and is ruled by Satan. It is called so in the first book of the Book of Mormon (I think the reference is something like 1 Nephi 13:5) where it is described as:
"And the Angel said unto me: Behold the formation of a church which is most abominable above all other churches, which slayeth the saints of God, yea, and tortureth them and bindeth them down, and yoketh them with a yoke of iron and bindeth them down into captivity."

The passage goes on to describe the church in the “vision”: "And it came to pass that I beheld this great and abominable church; and I saw the devil that he was the founder of it". The following verses make it obvious that it is meant to be the Catholic Church, using common insults of the early 1800’s, such as having “silks and scarlets” and “many harlots” (which was how nuns were described by many Protestant churches of the time.

If Romney doesn’t believe that, then he’s not following the Mormon faith, there is no disagreement with the Book of Mormon for the faith’s members. It outranks the Bible, which is “flawed”.

Opponents of Obama, and even some supporters, point to HIS Infringement on the moral principles of the Church by means of such things as the HHS mandate. So does that mean we should vote for neither Obama nor Romney? Also, according to this logic, Catholics wouldn’t be able to vote for any Protestant candidate either, or Muslim, or Jew, or JW, or Quaker…

You’re becoming a Catholic apologist!

Bob, you’re the only one I know of who reiterates that Obama is going to lose the election, AND LOSE BIG. Is this a feeling you have, or are you in contact with well-informed sources that predict this?
I guess you haven’t been reading my responses.

I think the president is going to lose by at least the same amount that he previously won by.

IMHO there have been so many “Christians” in the White House who may be on closer examination would appear hypocritical electing a real non-Christian wouldn’t be any worse. As long as he doesn’t try forced conversions to Mormonism or try to pass off the Book of Mormon as historical truth. Who cares?

Back to topic:

Who said:
A large proportion of these unemployed and their dependents have been forced on the relief rolls. The burden on the Federal Government has grown with great rapidity. We have here a human as well as an economic problem. When humane considerations are concerned, Americans give them precedence. The lessons of history, confirmed by the evidence immediately before me, show conclusively that** continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fibre. To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit**. It is inimical to the dictates of sound policy. It is in violation of the traditions of America. Work must be found for able-bodied but destitute workers.
The Federal Government must and shall quit this business of relief.
