He has offered a coherent and reasonable plan on how he plans to address the problems facing this country.mittromney.com/issues The idea that he is gaffe prone is a creation of the mainstream media. I mean its not as if he claimed there are 57 states or accused Pennsylvanians of ignorantly clinging to their guns and religion.
Or that the killing of our Ambassador and three other Americans, attacking 20 Embassies and Consulates around the world, storming the gates of the Egyptian Embassy were merely “bumps in the road.”

Or that Ahmadinajad’s threats of nuclear weapons are ‘just noise.’

Or calling himself “eye candy” on the View instead of meeting world leaders

It’s amazing how in the tank the media is this time. I think it’s even worse than in 08. It’s like a fond parent who cannot admit his kid is a little felon.

The Tea Party is counting the seconds until they can vote him out.

Odd that the conservative shows aren’t interviewing the Tea Party more, though.

This sounds like right wing tripe to me. I have listened to him. I don’t listen to the right or the left political garbage channels (like FOX or Huffington). I don’t even have television. My opinion that Romney is unable to control his own tongue to keep from embarrassing himself comes from hearing what he says, and rolling my eyes. He is gaffe prone. That is unarguable, in my opinion.

So that is one of my reservations. Do we want another GW Bush who embarrasses us everywhere he goes, and every time he speaks? Bush was stupid and uninformed. The stupid part was genetic and not his fault. But it disqualified him as an effective president. The uninformed part was his own laziness. He had all of the advantages, including a free ride to ivy league schools. I met a few like him when I was in school. They are dangerous people because of their sense of entitlement and their laziness. I don’t know if Romney is in this class. Clearly he feels entitled. But I don’t think he is lazy at all.

I am still trying to figure Romney out. He is obviously not as stupid as Bush, but is he smart enough to be president. We can’t suffer through another mentally incapable president. Look at the mess that the last one created. It is a minimum qualification that a president be really brilliant mentally, like Reagan, like Clinton, like Obama.

That is not enough though, as Carter and Obama have demonstrated. But I will not vote for a candidate who is stupid. That would be like pointing a gun at my own foot and pulling the trigger.

Is your mute response intended to imply somehow that Obama is not brilliant? Show me a stupid student who is head of his class at Harvard Law. He is not average. He is actually brilliant. My personal atty tells me that one of Obama’s professors, who was his professor when he was at Harvard, told him that Obama was the smartest student that he has ever had in a class while teaching at Harvard.

So go ahead and tell me what information you are privy to which contradicts that? Tell me how a middle class black person gets to the head of his Harvard Law class, when he is not brilliant.

Please people. You may not like the man. You may not think he is suited to be president. I don’t either. But try to be honest in your assessments of others.

How do you know that he was really head of his class? He refuses to release his transcripts.

The man in a gaff machine. It is an insult to Reagan and, yes, Clinton to list his intelligence in the same sentence with theirs.

I also add: I don’t recall seeing mean spirited posts here from conservatives, and yes, even the vast majority of liberals here. It lacks a certain class, IMHO.

Sheesh! He was editor of the Review in his freshman year. What are you talking about?

If you don’t think that Clinton was brilliant, then your opinion in gaging such matters is of little value, in my opinion. Here is a news flash. There are smart conservatives, and smart liberals. Studies show that there are more smart liberals than there are smart conservatives. But in the rarefied atmosphere of presidential politics, one expects brilliance. The only real exception in recent history has been GW Bush.

If you are confusing President Clinton’s sex addiction problem with his intelligence, I would point out that addictive personalities are common among highly successful people. Mr. Bush was a dry drunk, for example. There were a number of studies of him showing how he was an alcoholic (by his own admission), who based on his behavior appeared never to have gotten into recovery. At least he stopped drinking. I admire that. But he carried all that psychological baggage which we had to endure the consequences of, with him as president.

If your definition of intelligence is that someone agrees with you, then there may only be one smart person in the world.

By all accounts, FDR was brilliant, Truman was brilliant, Eisenhower was brilliant, Kennedy was brilliant, Johnson was brilliant, Nixon was brilliant, Ford was intelligent but not in the same league, Carter was brilliant, Reagan was brilliant, GHW Bush was brilliant, Clinton was brilliant, GW Bush was below average, Obama is brilliant.

Now… going through that list and deciding which president was effective in the light of history is a different matter. Some of them were good and some not so good. But I don’t think that many historians would disagree that GW Bush was the very worst in the list. His lack of mental acumen had a lot to do with that, I think.

Editor of the Law Review is a POPULARITY contest, not a tap for intellectual brilliance. Look I am sure the guy is book smart but so what? Book smart has been highly over rated IMO. They don’t call academia the Ivory Tower for nothing. These people are brainiacs but they don’t necessarily have common sense, emotional intelligence, or leadership skills.

I agree Carter was one smart dude. He could operate a nuclear submarine as I recall. But what an absolute ZERO as President and he’s a worse ex-president. Nixon was apparently incredibly intelligent. How’d that work out for us?

Clinton was an Oxford Scholar. I think he was smart and smart politically. Not a bad President particularly after Newt and Co took over in Congress.

Bush 43 was smart enough to do better than Kerry at university. OTOH he was a terrible speaker and too many people interpreted this lack as a lack of intelligence.

As to Obama, he’s a good speaker sometimes. He may have a lot of brain cells but he is weak willed, a narcissist and hates to make a decision. All he wants is praise and glory and when he doesn’t get it, he’s a petulant little boy. His lack of executive ability is not helpful when one is the leader of the free world. I couldn’t care less what his transcripts say, I think he’s wrecking the country with his feverswamp ideas and ideology.

Rasmussen did a survey of what the workforce thought of Ivy League graduates. 97% of them thought other people would work just as hard if not harder.

Both republican, independent and democrat leaders come out of the Ivy League.

With the exception of the Reagen administration, the others in the last 50 years have managed to screw this country up royally and turned the Constitution on its head while many conservatives up to this point were “too busy working” to care (and yet the Nielsen ratings of Must-see TV and the NFL didn’t mind) and the left bleats “help the poor” like a broken record while many of them live in luxury and refuse to give of their own stuff.

And you want us to say that this president is intelligent?
My personal atty tells me that one of Obama’s professors, who was his professor when he was at Harvard, told him that Obama was the smartest student that he has ever had in a class while teaching at Harvard.
I’ll bet.

So, where are those transcripts then?

Obama wasn’t a middle class black person.

Furthermore, most of his “classmates” at Columbia said they never even heard of the guy. At Occidental, the reports I heard was that he was too busy attending Marxist meetings to be bothered with schoolwork.
Please people. You may not like the man. You may not think he is suited to be president. I don’t either. But try to be honest in your assessments of others.
Yes. I can only imagine what you and the left-wing media would say if Mitt Romney’s political career started in Timothy McVeigh’s living room or if he worked at the same place as the Unabomber with his pastor cursing out America and saying we deserved 9-11.

I agree,a certain edge to the more liberal among us;)

👍👍 Love it…I don’t know why Obama is considered so brilliant. Everything he’s done as President has turned to rot. He was undistinguished as a State Senator or in the US Senate. Just a lot of talk talk talk and not much accomplished.

The bottom line is that we have two candidates, once again, who would not make good presidents. I find it very discouraging that we have lost whatever control we may have once had over the federal government. Or, it may be more accurate to say, that our government was at one time more likely to act in the interest of the citizens. It is discouraging that neither party will act in our interests. It is about personal wealth now (however that is measured), instead of the common wealth.

I feel that we are on a precipice, and the both parties continue to push us closer and closer. Prior to Clinton, people may have been aware that this precipice was somewhere in the distance. Today, it seems to be looming right in front of us. Partisan politics prevents anyone doing anything to slow us down in our inexorable march forward.

Sometimes I think that since we are not going to be able to reform anything, until the Congress and all of the politicians are really shaken up, that everyone in every office in every election should be voted out, until the politicians start acting more in the interests of their constituents who are normal citizens. This would create chaos for a while, but it would send a clear message. We’ve got to do something about the lobbyists. What was once a chance for business interests to be heard, which is fair enough, has become enslavement by the politicians to the business interests.

I understand that our government officials are now on the direct pay of big business while in office. For example, anyone in a decision making capacity in the Dept of Agriculture is collecting consulting fees from big agribusiness, WHILE SITTING IN OFFICE AND COLLECTED A GOVERNMENT PAYCHECK. This is disgusting.

If anyone here has high hopes for anything that Romney can do, I hope that you are right, if he is elected. Personally, I am very skeptical that he brings anything new to the office. I think he is just more of the same old Republican thinking that was so disastrous under Bush.

As for Obama, he is just as bad. It is very discouraging.

Wow. The kind of ringing endorsement he just went on record as being committed to defending your right to make. Hail to the chief! 😉

Discouraging? Ever heard the saying, ‘a country gets the leaders it deserves’. Why should we expect politicians who act like adults if we’re stuck in the group and communication dynamics of an elementary school playground?

Simple. A person of above-average intelligence is considered brilliant because his/her level of discourse tends to put his/her detractors in the shade. This is particularly true when they have a good upbringing and good standards of decency in interpersonal interactions to match that charming intellect. 😉

Epan I am baffled by the theory that Romney is just “another Bush.” Now there were things I liked about President Bush. I think he was a man of integrity and moral courage. He wasn’t the kind of wet fingered hack that we see so often in politics. He was willing to make tough decisions and he was also willing to admit when he was wrong and back down without being vindictive or trying to undermine those who opposed him.

OTOH he is clearly a “big government” Republican with NCLB and the Medicare Drug Bill (which incidentally has actually been pretty fiscally sound). Prior to running for office President Bush had a somewhat indistinguished career in the private sector.

I believe in Mitt Romney because I also believe that you can predict the future to some extent by looking at the past. Mitt Romney is NOT an idealogue and while many criticize him for that I think that’s what we need. We need someone who is a focused PROBLEM SOLVER and clearly his private sector experience, his Olympic turn around experience, the people who worked with him in Massachusetts when he was governor ALL said he was someone who could analyze a problem without the fog of ideology and get results. Paul Ryan brings to the table not only brilliance in economic matters but an ability to push legislation and also courage in the face of opposition. When he first promoted his “Road to Prosperity” even Republicans fled for the hills. No one wants to be the bearer of bad news. But Ryan stuck with it and showed how we need to STOP the hemmorhage first and then try to wind back the spending.

I am also stunned you claimed Romney was not smart. He is by all accounts, those who knew him in college and in the workplace ALL say he is incredibly smart. He can asssess a situation, pin down the problem and then start implementing solutions. He went to Harvard Law AND got his MBA at the same time. Tell me this isn’t smart???

I agree we are on a fiscal cliff and clearly Obama is going to do nothing about it. He claimed our SIXTEEN TRILLION DOLLAR debt “isn’t a short term or medium term problem.” He’s right,…not for HIM it’s not a problem. Too bad he doesn’t think about his kids’ future with that burden dumped on them.

Look we did not DESERVE this empty suit with his Leftist, anti-life views, his corrupt administration and his weak kneed response to world crises. Obama is a DISASTER for this country and we did not DESERVE this.

What happened? A lot of people so hated Bush that the entire Republican brand was tainted. Like me, people would have voted for Mickey Mouse over any candidate with an R by his name in 08. Obama fooled a lot of people. He didn’t fool me but I admit he’s even worse than I thought he’d be. We have a celebrity culture. Look at the TV with all those stupid reality shows, vapid females with their bosoms on parade. So a celebrity politician appealed to that crowd. We have a lot of leftover white guilt. So a black president sounded so appealing. Assuage our guilt, get a good speaker and a celebrity all at once.

No we didn’t DESERVE what we got and I sure hope enough people have learned so as they say “We Don’t Get Fooled Again.”
