Our foreign policy will have to change when we no longer have the credit to borrow more for it. We need peace through strength, not peace through inerventionalism. We are repeating the mistakes of England, and it will bankrupt us, and our empire will fall. Peace through strength includes re-taking the moral high ground, and spending our defense dollars on our army at home, the same way that Reagan did. R Reagan thought that America was too great a nation for interventionalism. He said “we do not occupy countries.” I cry when I think of this and I can hear his voice as he said it. The pre-emptive strike is a moral and practical disaster. We cannot keep our greatness, when we fail to be “great.”
To be honest though, borrowing money from China to pay for troops in Australia as a defense strategy in case China ever starts feeling froggy probably isn’t such a bad idea.

Because when the Chinese come to collect we will just do what the Mexicans did to the French and kick their rear ends.

And we will have our own CINCO DE MAYO!!!

Please. You sound like a broken record. I can tell you what a Romney, a Gingrich or a Santorum would do: they’d nominate justices who are contructionist - in the mold of a Scalia, Roberts or Alito. The political reality is unless we overturn Roe V Wade, there isn’t much we can do to seriously reform our abortion laws. That is not ignoring the question, its simply having a different opinion on the issue. You may not like the opinion, but don’t fabricate nonsense like " they’ve ignored the question."
This is the current court:

John Roberts - Chief Justice, Bush II, Catholic, R
Antonin Scalia - Reagan, Catholic, R
Anthony Kennedy - Regan, Catholic, R
Clarance Thomas - Bush I, Catholic, R
Samuel Alito - Bush II, Catholic R
Ruth Ginsburg - Clinton, Jewish, D
Stephen Breyer - Clinton, Jewish, D
Sonia Sotomayor - Obama, Catholic, D
Elena Kagan - Obama, Jewish, D

It is mostly Catholic (6) and in Republican control (5). The court was overwhelmingly Republican during the Bush years. The Republicans cant seem to actually deliver on getting justices who will overturn Roe vs. Wade. As Joe Sobran pointed out:
It gets crazier. In 1993 the Court handed down one of the most bizarre decisions of all time. For two decades, enemies of legal abortion had been supporting Republican candidates in the hope of filling the Court with appointees who would review Roe v. Wade. In Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the Court finally did so. But even with eight Republican appointees on the Court, the result was not what the conservatives had hoped for. The Court reaffirmed Roe.
This was in 1993. Nothing has changed after Bush I and II got more of their guys on the courts.

Why would I think the Republicans will nominate justices who will overturn Roe vs. Wade when they have yet to do so when they had the power?
How utterly misleading and disengenuous. You take what justices did 40 years ago who were nominated to the bench even earlier - two by Dwight Eisenhower - and use it to imply that the modern GOP is not pro-life. Also, you fail to mention that Democrats systematically opposed efforts by the Republicans to nominate good justices. Did you ever think to criticize the Democrats and the catholics who supported their efforts to thwart GOP pro-life efforts?
A fact is a fact. The Republican party clearly does not have a long held tradition of being against abortion or of electing good justices. Based on the decisions of the last 30 (?) years when the Republicans controlled the courts (most people seem to be unaware they actually did control it) I am confident in the uselessness of Republican nominees. It is always the Democrats faults. The Republicans are just poor Huckleberry Hounds. Yes, the Democrats are awful. Yes it is a tragedy that Catholics do not oppose abortion and some openly support it. But the Republican party has had zero success in ending or significantly limiting abortion. The only success was partial birth abortion which most people are against. The court did nothing and the Republicans went no further than the will of the people.
Then why isn’t that pie-in-the-sky strategy embraced by pro-life groups? Are they incincere (as some shamefully allege) or are they just stupid?
I dont know why they dont try other strategies. I’m not sure why they put all their eggs in one basket. They could at least try an amendment. When all other attempts have failed I would switch things up. Some are probably insincere, in that they have employees who are mostly taking a check and working a job. Think about Bill Bennett the great moralizer and anti-abortion crusader who has a terrible gambling problem to the tune, allegedly, of millions of dollars in loses. He needs money to fuel his addiction. Maybe it is just a racket for him. There are evil people everywhere, even in good institutions. That should come as no surprise for anyone who is aware of Judas’ betrayer of Christ.
If you really believe that then why do you waste your time trying to get Ron Paul elected?
I mostly offer money to help Ron Paul’s campaign. I promote him to friends. I would help in his campaign. But I do not look to him to solve the abortion scourge. To solve that I do my part to promote the Christian Faith and especially the great demands Christ puts on us to live holy lives.

Dr. Paul just posted on Facebook that his son, Rand, has been detained by TSA…

Why do you keep asking us this question? You should be asking your Representative, assuming they are a Republican. If you support Santorum, ask him if he supports such measures. Right now you just seem to assume that they wouldn’t work because you haven’t heard of them, but these strategies have been around for years and have worked on several other issues as has been pointed out several times on these threads at this point.

Personally I don’t see why it’s so hard to believe that the political wing of the pro-life movement is just generally ineffectual at coming up with a winning strategy. It’s been 40 years, most of that time with a Republican president and pro-life Republican-appointed Supreme Court, and nothing has been done to overturn Roe v. Wade. Maybe the pro-life movement really is just that weak; it’s sad but highly likely. 😦

Peace and God bless!

According to Rands Facebook page he was on his way to speak at a march for life rally at DC.

What do you mean unelectable? He’s tied with Romney in a hypothetical match up vs Obama. Santorum & Gingrich are at the bottom due to not getting independents. Where do you get your information from?
In order to be in a hypothetical match up with Obama, he has to hypothetically win the GOP nomination. I get my information from many sources - mainstream and non-mainstream. I get my ability to reason from God.

Code:
He had no chance of winning Iowa?
No, he didn’t have a chance.
How many delegates did they each get?
Beats me.
He’s unelectable because there is too much ignorance of the truth out there.

.
So Paul lost because people are too stupid? I am used to hearing that reasoning from liberal elitist columnists from the NY Times to explain why their favorite liberal candidate lost, but I am surprised (and disappointed) to see you borrowing from that playbook.

Ishii

No, he didn’t have a chance.

Beats me.

Ishii
Interesting, because last I heard they all tied at 7 which means none of them lost.

Paul had a chance, and came very close. Had Huntsman not been in NH, there is a pretty good chance he’d done much better.

Regardless of your opinion, Paul’s pulled quadruple the support this time, he deserves the respect of a serious contender.

People are for the most part ignorant of our current economic situation. Iran should be the least of our worries while our debt has surpassed our GDP. Are you saying that people know politics, and are educate enough to fully understand Dr. Paul’s beliefs?

Please say it isn’t so, I see them misrepresented on a daily basis by people who should know better.

Conservatives are losing the ability to effectively complain about big corrupt government and politicians everytime they open their mouths these days.

That’s exactly the problem. Ron Paul supporters are the only smart, informed voters in the country. Everyone else are sheeple who don’t know anything. 👍

Once again, this analysis is absolutely wrong. Joseph Sobran was brilliant, but he had an ax to grind. Here is why it is wrong: The “eight Republican appointees” that Sobran speaks of, how many were nominated by Republican presidents (Nixon and Ford) before abortion became a national issue and certainly before the pro-life movement was organized to the point that it could pressure the president to try to nominate constructionist supreme court justices who might overturn Roe V Wade. Nixon was pro-choice even. Is this something you overlooked or are you just deliberately trying to be misleading by falsely lumping all Republican justices together - the ones nominated in the early 70’s with the ones nominated after abortion became a big national issue?
Why would I think the Republicans will nominate justices who will overturn Roe vs. Wade when they have yet to do so when they had the power?
Four reasons: Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Roberts. Two more: Romney and Gingrich who have promised to nominate justices in the mold of those four. Are you not aware that Bush 1 had to deal with a senate that was dominated by pro-abortion liberal Democrats like Kennedy, Biden and Patrick Leahy? (who were also catholic) ??? Considering that political reality its a wonder Bush was able to get even one good justice on the bench in Clarence Thomas. Here is another reason: a GOP controlled senate.

Here is a history quiz for you: when has the GOP controlled the senate while having four solid justices on the supreme court, a GOP president, and a supreme court vacancy to fill - in the past thirty five years?
A fact is a fact. The Republican party clearly does not have a long held tradition of being against abortion or of electing good justices. Based on the decisions of the last 30 (?) years when the Republicans controlled the courts (most people seem to be unaware they actually did control it)
The Republicans didn’t “control the courts”. That is a false statement. You had different justices who were nominated in different era’s in entirely different circumstances. I realize this doesn’t fit your view, but facts are facts. Based on your thinking, I might say, “we should vote Democrat because sometimes Democrats nominate anti-abortion justices - Byron White was nominated by JFK” Which is totally wrong, but that’s essentially the level of the analysis you’ve displayed.
I am confident in the uselessness of Republican nominees.
It is always the Democrats faults. The Republicans are just poor Huckleberry Hounds. Yes, the Democrats are awful. Well, like I said, we can’t really do much until we overturn Roe V Wade. We have four solid votes right now. One more would do it. But apparently you want to quit because you’re frustrated with the big bad Republicans! This election will decide much. If you give up now its like quitting a marathon a mile or two before the finish.
I dont know why they dont try other strategies. I’m not sure why they put all their eggs in one basket. They could at least try an amendment. Yes, I am sure that Bill Bennet is secretly pro-life because it helps him fund his gambling habit. LOL. That just about sums up your analysis doesn’t it.
I mostly offer money to help Ron Paul’s campaign. I promote him to friends. I would help in his campaign. But I do not look to him to solve the abortion scourge. To solve that I do my part to promote the Christian Faith and especially the great demands Christ puts on us to live holy lives.
Fine, support Paul. I just hope that when the eventual GOP nominee is decided, you will discern your moral duty in light of political reality, rather than the historical fantasy masquerading as political analysis you’ve displayed here. You might want to bone up on some political history before posting next time.

And the answer to your quiz: Never. But it could happen soon if enought people vote who are informed of political reality and understand what is at stake in the next election.

Conservatives are losing the ability to effectively complain about big corrupt government and politicians everytime they open their mouths these days.
So if it weren’t for the ignorance on the part of the primary voters, Paul would be winning?

Ishii

Paul has never had a chance. Could he have pulled off a primary or caucus victory by some fluke? Maybe. But the guy has never been a serious candidate. He is talking about serious issues, but be honest, a 77 year old congressman from Texas who ran on the Libertarian ticket before? Please.

Ishii

That’s exactly the problem. Ron Paul supporters are the only smart, informed voters in the country. Everyone else are sheeple who don’t know anything. 👍
Is this how it works? I provide my opinion and you provide empty rhetoric?

“Most people don’t pay any attention to the national debt, a real security issue, unlike a nuke that nobody has any proof of in Iran”

“YOU JUST THINK YOUR SMARTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE YOU RON PAUL SUPPORTER YOU!!!”

🤷

Wasn’t long ago conservatives were bashing Obama supporters for being ignorant of the issues.

Then they complain about the debt, and the wars, the big spending, the healthcare.

It’s funny how you trust government so much when it comes to dropping bombs, but don’t dare touch your healthcare, right?

I believe in consistency, I don’t trust them with preemptive strikes or preemptive care.

I think many Paul supporters themselves are a little over the top.

I think many who oppose Paul are to stubborn to step back and question their own views.

It wasn’t that long ago I would sit here and agree with almost everything the rest of the conservatives said. Then I felt like a hypocrite, how can I be against big government but support the Republican nominee whose all about big government. Mitt, Newt, Santorum have all had their hand in big money, big government and big corruption.

Then I saw, this one person. People said, “He’s never gotten anything done in Congress”. Wait…why not? “Because he’s a bad leader” Really? Let’s look deeper into it…no lobbyist connections, no big oil connections, he refused the government pension, he doesn’t vote yes on anything that violates the constitution, something conservatives say they champion, he proposed legislation to reduce his own pay…wow, if you take away the name it sounds like the perfect conservative candidate.

Put in the name and all of the sudden conservatives slam on the breaks. “We don’t like his foreign policy”, well you better start to like it because your broke. “We need to bomb those terrorists in other countries”, good you only create more while your at it.

“He want’s to legalize drugs”, no he want’s states to take control over the issue. “He’s not as pro-life”, uh…he’s an OB/GYN whose proposed a sanctity of life act three times and delivered over 4,000 children.

C’mon, you guys know there will never be a perfect candidate, but if you truly support limited government, balanced budgets, yaddy yaddy ya and all the rest…

Can you really support a typical Republican politician whose is or has been beholden to big money, big government and big lobby? And keep a straight face and demonize Ron Paul?

If you can, conservatism has lost all respect from me.

Well said bbarrick8383!

I don’t know why people keep saying that Ron Paul doesn’t have a chance. He has a lot of supporters who are very adamant about the message of Liberty, and sticking to our constitution. People like his ideals, and our numbers are growing!
