Rorate Mass tomorrow

So I’m planning to go to a Rorate Mass tomorrow, my first one. I’ve been to a number of TLMs, just not Rorate before. Sounds like a lovely tradition, and while I will have to get up at 4 am on Saturday to get there, at least the traffic will be much lighter driving to the church than it is when the Masses are held during the day or early evening and it takes me 2 hours to drive 30 miles.

Anybody know if I’m supposed to bring my own candle? I do have a small votive candle I could use. The church hosting this Mass has not provided any information other than it’s a Rorate Mass in honor of Our Lady for Advent, the name of the priest celebrating it, the Mass intention, and the time.

Thanks, I hope it’s nice. There is a second one happening at the same time, but it’s at least another 20 miles away and the church hosting that one doesn’t look as pretty from the online pictures. so I am going to this one because it’s closer and nice church. Supposed to be a sung Mass too, this will be my third sung Latin Mass in two weeks as they seem to be doing a bunch of them for Advent and it kind of breaks up the same old same old of daily Mass routines.

My parish always sets out tubs of vigil candles for candle light masses and other candle light vigils.

We have a box with candles at my parish. Bring something to protect your hands so you don’t get the runny candle stuff on them or on you clothes.

The church is dark when the Mass starts. Just the candles on the altar, by the statue of the blessed virgin Mary and those people are holding. It is “waiting with Mary until the Son of God enters the world”. My parish priest celebrates the OF and it is very beautiful with Rorate, caeli, deuper, et nubes pluant iustrum etc and the Mass parts sung in Latin. The Rorate Mass is my favourite after the Easter Triduum.

Normally a parish which provides a Rorate Mass would provide candles as well, if they are intended to be lit in community.

They did indeed have candles and little wax-catchers.
Never had to go to Communion with a candle in my hand before, but the Church was very dark so I needed it to get down the aisle.
Very nice Mass and pretty church, lots of young seminarians here, only bummer was the church has no parking lot and I didn’t know that, so finding street parking made me a couple minutes late. I made it by the Kyrie and some others who I suspect had same problem came in after me.

Just got back from Rorate Mass. It was in the Extraordinary Form and was chanted throughout. Awesome stuff!
